Job summary

IIT Bombay Development and Relations Foundation (DRF) seeks a Manager – Human Resources to lead end-to-end HR operations and talent acquisition, building scalable people processes that support DRF’s growth.

Based in Mumbai, you will partner with leadership to drive hiring, onboarding, employee data accuracy, compliance, and a positive experience across the lifecycle in a fast‑moving environment. Master’s in HR with 5–10 years’ experience; startup or growth-focused exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in HR with 5–10 years of progressive experience in HR.
  • Experience in start‑up, early‑stage, or fast‑growing organizations preferred.
  • Strong experience managing key aspects of the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience working with HRMS platforms and maintaining accurate employee records and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely availability of talent in line with manpower plans, budgets, and role requirements.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment through internal and external sourcing channels with defined turnaround times.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand role requirements and support hiring decisions.
  • Manage employee communication and timely resolution of queries and grievances.
  • Oversee induction and onboarding processes for new employees.
  • Monitor HR operations, HRMS data, MIS, and compensation data for process efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases, and generate HR reports for decision making.
  • Manage employee separation processes including exit formalities and feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen HR processes, policies, systems and employee practices.
  • Support implementation of HR initiatives and process improvement projects.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, set up in 1958 as the second IIT, is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of science and engineering education and research. The Institute was granted the status of 'Institution of Eminence' by the Ministry of Education (the then Ministry of Human Resources Development) on July 9, 2018.

IIT Bombay is reputed for the quality of its faculty, cutting-edge research, industry relations, and the outstanding caliber of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Institute has 17 academic departments, 64 other academic entities (Centres/ Programmes/ Academic facilities/ Hubs/ Externally funded centres and Labs), and three schools.

Over the last six decades, more than 75,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the Institute. The Development and Relations Foundation (DRF), established as a Section 8 not-for-profit entity under the Dean Alumni & Corporate Relations (ACR) office, serves as a strategic arm dedicated to advancing IIT Bombay's vision of global leadership. DRF plays a pivotal role in fostering meaningful, long‑term partnerships with alumni, corporations, and philanthropic foundations transforming goodwill into sustained philanthropic support It empowers the Dean ACRs mission by driving fundraising initiatives, stewarding donor relationships, and ensuring transparency in managing philanthropic contributions.

Job Purpose

The Manager – Human Resources will be responsible for managing end-to-end HR operations and talent acquisition while building efficient and scalable people processes that support IITB-DRF's growth and organizational objectives. The role will work closely with leadership and internal stakeholders to ensure effective talent management, seamless employee lifecycle processes, compliance, and a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely availability of talent in line with approved manpower plans, budgets, and role requirements.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment through effective use of internal and external sourcing channels, ensuring quality hiring within defined turnaround timelines.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand role requirements, competencies, and talent needs and support effective hiring decisions.
  • Manage employee communication and provide timely resolution of employee queries and grievances.
  • Oversee induction and onboarding processes to ensure a seamless and engaging experience for new employees.
  • Drive efficient HR operations by monitoring employee lifecycle processes, HRMS data, MIS, compensation data, turnaround times, process accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, legal, and organizational requirements through timely documentation, record maintenance, and adherence to policies and processes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR databases, and generate HR reports and analytics to support management decision‑making.
  • Manage employee separation processes, including exit formalities, documentation, and exit feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen HR processes, policies, systems, and employee practices in line with DRF's evolving organizational needs.
  • Support implementation of HR initiatives and process improvement projects across talent acquisition, employee experience, HR operations, and people practices.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments aligned with organizational priorities and the evolving needs of IITB-DRF.

Desired Experience & Competencies

  • Master's degree with 5–10 years of progressive experience in HR, preferably in a Generalist role.
  • Experience in a start‑up, early‑stage, or fast‑growing organization will be preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in independently managing key aspects of the employee lifecycle.
  • Strong experience across Talent Acquisition and HR Operations.
  • Experience working with HRMS platforms and maintaining accurate employee records and documentation.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, or improving HR processes, policies, and systems will be an advantage.
  • Strong ownership and ability to independently manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Self‑driven, proactive, and comfortable working with ambiguity.
  • Hands‑on and execution‑oriented approach with strong problem‑solving skills.
