Job summary

Airbase by Paylocity is seeking an experienced engineering leader in Bengaluru to guide the team building Aidora, Paylocity’s AI-powered leave management product, and integrate it with the Paylocity HCM platform. Position Overview

This role leads the engineering team responsible for integrating and evolving Aidora, Paylocity’s AI-powered leave management product, into the broader Paylocity HCM platform. You will oversee the technical execution, delivery, and operational health of the team, ensuring the development of secure, scalable, and reliable solutions that automate leave management, simplify complex HR workflows, and deliver intelligent, AI-driven employee and administrator experiences.

As an engineering leader, you will partner closely with Product, Architecture, and cross-functional engineering teams to define technical direction, drive integration with Paylocity’s Core HR and platform services, and guide the transition toward Paylocity’s cloud infrastructure and engineering practices. You will foster a high-performing team through coaching, mentorship, and strong engineering discipline, while establishing predictable delivery, improving software quality, and maintaining sustainable production operations.

This role requires strong people leadership, technical depth across modern cloud-based applications and AI services, and the ability to lead teams through significant product and platform transitions. Success requires building effective partnerships across India and the United States, navigating ambiguity, and translating evolving product priorities into clear execution plans that deliver secure, compliant, and impactful leave management capabilities across the Paylocity platform.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and manage an engineering team, ensuring alignment with product and business goals.
• Own the overall health, scalability, and quality of products within the team’s domain.
• Drive technical execution and delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
• Empower and unblock the team by establishing efficient execution and operational processes, ensuring high velocity and impactful delivery.
• Facilitate and continuously improve team processes, including development, planning, oncall rotations, bug triage, and metrics review.
• Drive execution on projects/goals that may extend beyond the immediate team’s scope, ensuring cross-functional collaboration.
• Coach and mentor engineers, supporting their career growth and skill development.
• Work with a single team and product partners within a domain that may contain multiple products or applications while managing dependencies and expected outcomes.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, and Business teams to align technical strategy with company objectives.
• Ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance standards.
• Monitor and analyze team performance metrics to drive continuous improvements in quality, velocity, and efficiency.
• Manage team capacity and resource planning, ensuring the right talent is allocated to meet project goals.
• Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging technologies, applying relevant innovations to enhance team effectiveness.

Education And Experience

• BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with 1+ years in a management role.
• Strong hands-on technical background in software development, including experience building and maintaining applications using .NET and C#.
• Hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating cloud-based solutions in AWS, with a solid understanding of modern cloud architecture, scalability, security, and operational best practices.
• Experience building applications that leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including integrating AI services, large language models (LLMs), machine learning capabilities, or other intelligent features into customer-facing or internal applications.
• Experience working in agile development environments and driving process improvements.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong collaboration skills, with experience working across Product, Design, and Business functions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to change, and a curious, growth-oriented mindset.
• Experience leading a team through significant change, such as an acquisition, re-org or platform migration.
• Clear written communication across time zones (India, US and Europe).

Good to have

• Shipping AI or LLM features in production: retrieval, agents or voice.
• HCM, payroll or other compliance-heavy domains.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
• Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

Work Location & Hybrid Model - This role is based out of our Bengaluru office at Embassy Golf Links Business Park. We operate under a hybrid working model.
