Job summary

Colgate-Palmolive is hiring a Manager, Engineering for its Ahmedabad, India facility. The role oversees overall engineering, digitization, automation and maintenance to drive world-class safety, quality and operational excellence in line with Industry 4.0 standards.

You will lead capital projects, manage contractors, and foster cross-functional partnerships to optimize asset performance and drive continuous improvement across utilities and plant systems.

Qualifications

• Education: B.Tech/BE in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering management.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of plant floor systems (Wonderware), utilities maintenance, and capital project management.

Responsibilities

• Execute engineering & maintenance strategy for critical utilities (boilers, steam, HVAC, chillers, water systems, vacuum pumps, generators).
• Drive CI for plant instrumentation and utilities to optimize asset utilization and efficiency while meeting GMP standards.
• Develop and execute maintenance plans (preventive, time-based, overhauling, condition monitoring).
• Lead Capital Expenditure projects, manage vendors and contracts, ensure ROI.
• Lead Industry 4.0, digitization, and automation initiatives to modernize operations.
• Ensure compliance with FP&R, water and critical utilities and drive EHS improvements.

Role Overview

The Manager, Engineering is a plant leadership role responsible for the overall engineering, digitization, automation, and maintenance of the plant. This position drives operational excellence through active involvement in work teams, coaching, and effective resource utilization to lead the facility toward Industry 4.0 standards while ensuring world‑class safety and quality compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering & Maintenance Strategy
  • Execute the operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of critical utilities, including Boiler & steam distribution, HVAC (Air Handling Units), Chillers, Water Systems, Vacuum Pumps, and Generators.
  • Drive continuous improvement (CI) efforts for plant instrumentation and utilities to optimize asset utilization and operational efficiency while meeting quality and GMP standards.
  • Ensure all the quality SOPs are followed and implemented in the areas of Engineering and Utilities – includes electrical, instrumentation, utilities, water systems, and facility management.
  • Develop and execute specific maintenance plans, including preventive, time‑based, overhauling, and condition monitoring strategies.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques such as Fish Bone, Why‑Why analysis, and Taguchi methods to resolve technical issues.
  • Implement initiatives for the skill up‑gradation of maintenance technicians to keep pace with evolving technologies.
  • Facilitate autonomous maintenance training for production staff to enhance operator ownership and equipment reliability.
• Project & Capital Management
  • Lead the initiation, implementation, and management of Capital Expenditure (CEB) projects, ensuring alignment with "Funding the Growth" (FTG) initiatives to deliver expected Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Oversee contractor management, including vendor selection, drafting service agreements, and rigorous performance monitoring.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle from conceptual design with consultants to smooth handover of new systems and equipment to respective functions.
  • Lead on‑time completion of projects within budgeted cost through effective planning; Engage stakeholders at all stages of the project
  • Ensuring Projects satisfy Quality, Safety, cost and service criteria by following a structured change management process to achieve the desired results
  • Lead change management initiatives and ensure robust process validation for all new engineering implementations.
  • Responsible for idle asset management to optimize plant space and resource recovery.
• Plant Systems & Digitalization
  • Design, implement, and maintain plant floor systems, including Wonderware and AB Solutions, ensuring proper qualification and infrastructure support (Servers, LAN, Network Segments).
  • Lead Industry 4.0, digitization, and automation initiatives through improvement projects to achieve advanced operational excellence and system modernization.
• Compliance & EHS
  • Enforce compliance with "Prevention of Loss Control Standards" and maintain engineering documentation for FP&R, Water, and Critical Utility systems.
  • Drive EHS initiatives to reduce Total Recordable Rate (TRR) and Days Away from Work (DAFW) rates, ensuring all regulatory permits and testing requirements are met.
• People & Stakeholder Leadership
  • Foster productive partnerships with cross‑functional teams (Production, Procurement) and external vendors to enhance equipment performance.
  • Optimize team development through coaching, feedback, and managing with respect principles to build technical capability and engagement.
