Manager – Health Data Science and Engineering

The Manager – Health Data Science and Engineering provides leadership and oversight for all Delta Wellness data science, analytics, and data engineering initiatives delivered from the Delta Technology Hub (DTH) in Bengaluru. This manager will help ensure that cross‑functional teams deliver robust data platforms, analytic products, and machine‑learning and GenAI solutions using health claims and real-world data on employee well‑being.

Key Responsibilities

• Acting as the primary liaison between Delta Wellness data engineers, analysts, and data scientists with DTH team members, ensuring transparent communication of priorities, progress and risks.
• Provide guidance on data engineering and platform architecture — overseeing the design and operation of secure, scalable cloud data pipelines and well‑modeled, governed data products that power analytics and AI across Delta's wellness footprint.
• Set and enforce engineering standards across the data platform — layered transformation (e.g., dbt), CI/CD, automated testing, documentation, and observability.
• Provides guidance on statistical and data science approaches to deliver timely and accurate business insights and reporting for wellness operations across Delta Air Lines footprint.
• Promote data science and AI best practices through showcases, demos and communities of practice.
• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary data analysts and data engineers, fostering high performance and continuous development.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding and career progression for data engineers, scientists, analysts.
• Champion an inclusive, data‑driven culture that rewards experimentation and learning.
• Provide coaching, feedback and performance reviews; ensure team wellbeing and policy compliance.
• Oversee regular reporting on delivery KPIs and model‑performance metrics.
• Proactively surface and mitigate risks, dependencies and blockers impacting data initiatives.

What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

• BS / MS degree in a technical or scientific field with 14+ years of overall relevant experience.
• Proven experience leading data engineering, analytics, data science teams.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python or R)
• Experience analyzing healthcare, wellness, or claims-related data
• Advanced skills in data visualization and reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
• Experience with advanced analytical applications (e.g., simulation, optimization, statistical analysis, linear regression, machine learning)
• Solid Understanding of Project Management.
• Solid grounding in data modeling and data warehousing — enough to review and guide complex transformation logic.
• Strong working knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS preferred — Redshift, Glue, Airflow, Lambda, S3) and modern data engineering (dbt, CI/CD, IaC), with a track record of leading teams that deliver on them.
• Experience leading delivery of GenAI/LLM solutions (RAG, summarization, agents), ideally on AWS Bedrock or comparable.
• Experience establishing data quality, testing, and governance frameworks for analytics/engineering teams.
• Working knowledge of data privacy and security for regulated data (PHI/PII, HIPAA, de-identification/tokenization).
• Experience in Team Leadership: Managed, mentored, coached and developed teams, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
• Must be capable of working under pressure, managing multiple tasks simultaneously
