Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Limited seeks an experienced IBM Mainframe specialist to deliver hands-on design, development, and maintenance across CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, and VSAM. You will build and optimize online programs with BMS maps, embedded SQL, and robust error handling while supporting modern CI/CD and code review processes.

The role emphasizes performance tuning, change management, debugging, and integration with REST/JSON through CICS Web Services in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• 510 years hands-on in IBM Mainframe stack: CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM.
• Strong experience building and maintaining CICS online programs (BMS maps, pseudo-conversational design, channels/containers, COMMAREA).
• Expertise in COBOL-DB2 with embedded SQL, cursor processing, error handling (SQLCODE, SQLSTATE), and unit testing.
• Solid JCL knowledge: procedures, symbolic parameters, condition codes, restart/re-run, utilities (IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, DFSORT/SYNCSORT).
• Performance tuning: DB2 indexing & access paths, EXPLAIN, RUNSTATS, buffer pool concepts; CICS task performance, VSAM I/O patterns.
• Experience with source control & change management (Endevor /Git), debugging (Abend-AID/CEEDUMP), and schedulers (Control-M/CA7).
• Knowledge of MQ (nice-to-have), and REST/JSON integration via CICS Web Services (preferred).
• Familiarity with Agile ceremonies, CI/CD for mainframe, code review practices, and documentation standards.
