Job description

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe MQ System Administrator to join our IT department. This role is critical for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our IBM MQ infrastructure on z/OS. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM MQ and its associated components using SMP/E, including performing MQ upgrades. Key duties involve working with MQ Middle and CICS Bridge concepts, managing MQ Triggering, and overseeing Cluster queue Managers, Queue sharing groups, MQ utilities, and Traces. The administrator will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining MQ channel encryption and security, guiding application developers on messaging flows, and performing MQ Performance & Tuning as well as monitoring. Additional responsibilities include installing, testing, configuring, and implementing mainframe WMQ and associated system software, performing WMQ system backups and recovery, and monitoring system activity for performance and availability. The role requires creating, maintaining, and using automation scripts for MQ for z/OS monitoring, alerting, and problem determination, as well as troubleshooting infrastructure and application issues related to Mainframe MQ.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include 9+ years of experience as a Mainframe MQ System Programmer with extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of IBM MQ on z/OS, SMP/E, MQ Upgrades, MQ Middle/CICS Bridge, MQ Triggering, Cluster queue Managers, Queue sharing groups, MQ utilities, Traces, MQ channel encryption, and MQ security. Candidates must have proven experience in guiding developers, knowledge of MQ Performance & Tuning and Monitoring, and proficiency in automation scripting for MQ for z/OS. Strong troubleshooting skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant field, along with strong analytical, problem-solving skills, logic and reasoning abilities, and a high attention to detail.
