We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to drive the design, integration, and deployment of semi-autonomous and autonomous systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that sits at the intersection of software and hardware: you will take complex components AI engines, control systems, sensors, and actuators and integrate them into robust, production-ready systems that perform reliably in the real world.
Systems Architecture And Integration
- Architect and integrate diverse software and hardware components into cohesive, well-functioning semi-autonomous and autonomous systems.
- Define interfaces, data flows, and integration standards across subsystems to ensure seamless interoperability.
- Make pragmatic trade-offs between performance, reliability, cost, and time-to-market across the full system stack.
Software Development
- Design, develop, and maintain software in C++ and Python across critical subsystems, including AI/perception engines, control systems, and sensor-actuator integration layers.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, with attention to real-time performance and resource constraints.
- Contribute to and uphold engineering best practices around code review, version control, and documentation.
Debugging And Root-Cause Analysis
- Investigate complex, cross-system issues spanning software, hardware, and their interactions.
- Conduct systematic root-cause analysis to identify the true source of failures rather than surface symptoms.
- Develop efficient, durable resolutions and put safeguards in place to prevent recurrence.
Technical Leadership And Cross-Team Coordination
- Lead, mentor, and guide a team of engineers, setting technical direction and raising the bar on quality.
- Coordinate across teams software, hardware, AI, QA, and product to align priorities and remove blockers.
- Own delivery milestones, track progress against schedules, and ensure the team ships reliable products on time.
Edge Deployment
- Deploy and optimise systems on edge devices, accounting for constraints in compute, memory, power, and connectivity.
- Anticipate and resolve deployment-related challenges such as hardware variability, over-the-air updates, latency, and field reliability.
- Tune software for efficient on-device execution without compromising functionality or safety.
Test Strategy And Validation
- Define and implement comprehensive testing strategies to validate and harden the system end-to-end.
- Build test coverage across unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level scenarios, including edge cases and failure modes.
- Establish validation processes that ensure robustness, safety, and consistent performance before deployment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (e. g., Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Science, or related discipline).
- 2-4 years of professional experience in systems engineering, ideally involving the integration of software and hardware.
- Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
- Demonstrated experience developing or integrating components such as AI engines, control systems, and sensor-actuator interfaces.
- Proven debugging and root-cause analysis skills across complex, multi-component systems.
- Experience working with edge devices and an understanding of real-world deployment challenges.
- Ability to design and execute thorough testing and validation strategies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead a team and coordinate across functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Direct experience building semi-autonomous or autonomous systems (e. g., robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation).
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems, embedded development, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
- Exposure to safety-critical or production-grade system development.
