Job summary

Xsub Robotics is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the early development of a large autonomous underwater vehicle. You will translate customer needs into system requirements, develop and maintain MBSE artifacts, and drive architecture decisions across multidisciplinary teams.

Role & responsibilities

We are hiring a Senior Engineer to join at the early development stage of a large autonomous underwater vehicle to bring it commercial pilots. You will:

• Translate customer and mission needs into vehicle-level and subsystem requirements in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Develop and maintain systems engineering artifacts including requirement baselines, interface control documents, verification matrices, architecture models, CONOPS, and digital thread documentation.
• Build and maintain the system model using model-based systems

engineering (MBSE) methods to connect mission objectives, payloads,

autonomy, propulsion, energy systems, sensors, communications, and

vehicle performance.

• Work closely with hydrodynamics, structures, controls, embedded

software, autonomy, payload, manufacturing, and test teams to shape

balanced system architecture decisions.

• Incorporate inputs from system safety, reliability, cybersecurity,

maintainability, and producibility disciplines into the overall platform

design.

• Define integration and verification strategies covering lab testing, SIL, HIL, dockside validation, and sea trials.
• Identify and manage technical risks related to endurance, navigation, energy systems, communications, autonomy behaviour, manufacturability, and operational deployment.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience in at least one of the following autonomous vehicle domains:

underwater vehicles (AUV/ROV/UUV), aerospace systems, UAVs, marine

platforms, ground robotics, or autonomous automotive systems.

• Experience in one or more subsystem areas such as navigation systems, propulsion systems, electrical power systems, mission computers, communications systems, payload integration, sensor suites, or embedded control systems.
• Experience with digital engineering workflows, digital thread environments, requirements traceability, configuration management, and integrated modeling environments.
• Experience with simulation platforms such as ROS 2, Gazebo, Unity,

Unreal Engine, MATLAB Simulink, or NVIDIA Isaac Sim.

• Experience developing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), or closed-loop validation environments.
• Experience in dynamics and controls including rigid body motion, marine hydrodynamics, actuator modeling, PID / MPC control systems, guidance laws, or state estimation.
• Experience with integrating real-time communication systems such as CAN, Ethernet, serial/UART, deterministic timing systems, and distributed embedded networks.
• Experience with sonar, radar, vision, lidar, acoustic navigation, or

synthetic sensor generation environments.

• Strong ownership mindset with demonstrated autonomy across concept.
• Prior experience mentoring engineers, leading technical reviews, and

driving engineering standards.
