Job summary

Samtel Avionics seeks an experienced Satellite System Engineer (10-12 years) to lead end-to-end system design and integration for CubeSat and space programs. You will define mission requirements and translate them into system architecture, coordinating across payload, ADCS, power, and RF subsystems.

You will drive design reviews, manage system budgets, perform trade studies, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring mission feasibility and performance through simulations and testing.

Qualifications

• Experience in mission analysis, orbit design, and simulation tools (STK, GMAT, MATLAB/Python).
• Solid understanding of CubeSat subsystems - ADCS, Power, Thermal, Propulsion, RF comms.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end satellite system design and architecture for CubeSat missions.
• Translate mission objectives into system-level requirements across subsystems (payload, power, ADCS, propulsion, RF).
• Own and manage system budgets including mass, power, data, and link budgets.
• Perform system trade-off studies to optimize performance, cost, and risk for mission success.
• Drive system integration and interface definition across multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead and coordinate design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure readiness at each stage.
• Develop and maintain system engineering documentation (requirements, ICDs, verification plans).
• Ensure mission feasibility and performance validation via simulations, analysis, and testing.
• Collaborate with payload and RF teams to define communication architecture and coverage.
• Support launch vehicle integration, mission planning, and on-orbit operations strategy.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring reliability and compliance with space standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote strong systems engineering practices.

The ideal candidate will drive technical trade-offs, lead design reviews, manage system budgets (mass, power, data, DV), and ensure mission feasibility and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end satellite system design and architecture development for CubeSat and small satellite missions.
• Translate mission objectives into system-level requirements, ensuring alignment across all subsystems (payload, power, ADCS, propulsion, communication, and thermal).
• Own and manage system budgets including mass, power, data rate, link budget, and DV.
• Perform system trade-off studies to optimize performance, cost, and risk for mission success.
• Drive system integration and interface definition across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Lead and coordinate design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure technical readiness at each stage.
• Develop and maintain system engineering documentation, including requirements, ICDs, and verification plans.

Desirable Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with mission analysis, orbit design, and simulation tools (STK, GMAT, MATLAB/Python).
• Solid understanding of CubeSat subsystems - ADCS, Power, Thermal, Propulsion, and RF communication systems.
• Hands-on experience in system integration, testing, and verification (AIT/AIV) for space systems.
• Knowledge of RF systems, link budget analysis, and IoT payload design (LoRa, SDR, LPWAN).
• Familiarity with space standards and best practices (ECSS, NASA standards, IN-SPACe/ISRO guidelines).
• Strong skills in multidisciplinary coordination, technical leadership, and stakeholder management.
