Job summary

Burns & McDonnell India leads T&D Pipelines projects from Mumbai/Bengaluru. The Lead Structural Engineer will guide a team of engineers and designers, oversee steel and foundation design, and ensure technical excellence across EPC-type assignments.

The role requires strong communication, mentoring, and QA/QC capabilities, with involvement across multiple disciplines and client interfaces to deliver safe, compliant structures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited program with min 12 years of experience.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and codes (AISC, ACI, IBC, PIP).
• Strong computer skills include structural analysis tools (RISA, STAAD, AutoCAD, Mathcad).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform QA/QC on detailed engineering documents and specs.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work on short-term basis.
• Ability to present formally and informally.
• Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Engineers and Designers to independently execute M&R / compressor station / RNG plant EPC projects.
• Provide leadership, training and mentoring to engineers and team members.
• Support structural design from concept to detailed design phases.
• Analyze and design structures including steel and foundations for T&D Pipelines.
• Prepare structural specs, design details, and calculations for various foundations and supports.
• Review drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders to develop clash-free designs.
• QA/QC of production drawings and project data.

Job Positions

Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) T&D Pipelines is looking for dynamic and self-motivated Lead Structural Engineer to support our T&D Pipeline Engineering and Design Team in the Mumbai/Bangalore Office. T&D Pipeline offers depth and breadth of experience in cross-country pipeline projects, RNG’s, M&R Stations, Compressor stations etc. which covers a wide range of design and project execution experiences. Main responsibilities include lead a team of Engineers and Designers, analysis and design of structures consisting of steel and foundation design of T&D Pipelines Projects. Candidate will execute projects which involves both conventional engineering practices and complex situations, requiring innovative solutions relative to work practices and procedures. This position can influence the growth and success of the Pipeline & Facilities group. Opportunities to advance into leadership roles are available. Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following assignments:

• Lead a team of Engineers and Designers to independently execute M&R / compressor station/ RNG plant EPC type projects.
• Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members.
• Support structural design of projects from the conceptual phase to detailed design phase.
• Analysis and design of structures consisting of steel and foundation design of T&D Pipelines.
• Prepare structural specifications, design details, and calculations for steel, foundations and substructures for Piperack, Pipe support & Cable tray support, tech structures, equipment foundation, building foundations, cooler foundation, skid foundation, transformer foundation, Vessel foundation, etc.
• Review structural, equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other engineering disciplines.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, client(s) and other stake holder(s) to develop a clash free system design.
• Quality review of production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data
• Responsible for QA/QC process adherence
• Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited program with min 12 years of experience (completion of master’s degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
• Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and codes such as AISC, ACI, IBC, PIP.
• Strong computer skills include structural analysis programs e.g., RISA, STAAD, AutoCAD, and Mathcad.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to make informal and formal presentations, inside and/or outside the organization.
• Ability to organize or prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
• Applies strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes and procedures within the structural engineering services industry
• Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong preference for those with: US project experience
• Beneficial but not required to have: Experience with civil design viz; grading, storm water, drainage design.
