Job summary

JP Morgan Services India Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru seeks a Lead Software Engineer - JAVA BACKEND to design and build scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and modern UI tech, collaborating across teams in a fast-paced agile environment.

You will mentor engineers, drive API design, optimize data access with Oracle/MySQL, and participate in production support, with exposure to AI-assisted development tools and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Experience with Oracle and/or MySQL, including SQL, performance tuning, transactional consistency, and data modeling.
• Experience with software design patterns, API design, and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools with evaluation of outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, data sensitivity, and secure handling of inputs/outputs.
• Demonstrated leadership including mentoring, technical ownership, and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of backend services and full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern UI technologies.
• Build and maintain microservices with strong API design, resiliency patterns, performance, and operational readiness.
• Develop and consume RESTful APIs and integrate securely with upstream and downstream systems.
• Design, implement, and optimize data access patterns for Oracle and/or MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and transactions.
• Leverages enterprise AI coding tools to improve code quality, speed, and productivity with peer review and secure coding.
• Applies knowledge of SDLC tools including AI-assisted development and automation to improve value delivered.
• Ensure engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, coaching, and setting development standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with product, UX/design, QA, and operations to deliver outcomes end-to-end.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief technology office team, you will lead the design and development of modern, scalable solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and Oracle/MySQL databases, along with full-stack UI technologies. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration. You will help shape technical direction and ensure high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of backend services and full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern UI technologies


• Build and maintain microservices with strong API design, resiliency patterns, performance, and operational readiness


• Develop and consume RESTful APIs and integrate securely with upstream and downstream systems


• Design, implement, and optimize data access patterns for Oracle and/or MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and transactions


• Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness


• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation


• Ensure engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices


• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, coaching, and setting development standards and best practices


• Collaborate with product, UX/design, QA, and operations to deliver outcomes end-to-end

• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices


• Demonstrated leadership skills including mentoring, technical ownership, and stakeholder communication
