Job summary

JP Morgan Chase is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design, build, and operate highly scalable, resilient, cloud-native backend systems in Java. The role focuses on resiliency, security, and scale within Consumer and community banking technology.

You will lead secure coding practices, CI/CD, and AI-assisted tooling to accelerate delivery while ensuring architectural integrity and risk management across services.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced in Java programming language.
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Experience leading AI-assisted software development tools with validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.
• Practical AWS experience.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer and community banking technology team, you design, build, and operate highly scalable, resilient, cloud-native backend systems in Java.

Job Responsibilities

Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting, thinking beyond routine approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture Drive team adoption of approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation Lead communities of practice across software engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies

• Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
• Practical AWS experience
