1. Compliance Governance and Strategic Advisory
  • Own and continuously improve the organisation-wide labour compliance framework, policies, standard operating procedures, controls and annual compliance calendar.
  • Advise senior management, Legal, HR, Procurement, Operations and project teams on material labour-law risks, business decisions and remediation priorities.
  • Interpret legislative and regulatory developments, assess their business impact and lead timely implementation across multiple states and entities.
  • Provide functional guidance to site teams, compliance personnel, consultants and service providers, and ensure consistent standards across the organisation.

  • Ensure accurate and timely statutory filings, contributions, registers, notices, records and disclosures, supported by appropriate maker-checker controls.
  • Conduct periodic compliance certifications and elevate material exceptions, repeat defaults and potential financial or reputational exposure.
3. Registrations, Renewals and Licensing
  • Provide end-to-end oversight of registrations, renewals, amendments, surrender and closure of statutory licences and registrations.
  • Manage principal-employer registrations, contractor labour licences, provident fund and employee state insurance registrations, factory licences, construction-worker registrations, professional tax, labour welfare fund and other approvals.
  • Maintain a centralised tracker with clear ownership, document repositories, advance alerts and escalation protocols.
4. Contractor and Vendor Compliance
  • Establish and lead a risk-based contractor labour compliance programme covering onboarding, mobilisation, monthly monitoring, audits and exit controls.
  • Review wage records, attendance, social-security remittances, licences, insurance, workforce records and subcontracting arrangements.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions, contractual remedies and closure of high-risk or recurring non-compliances in coordination with Procurement, HR, Legal and site leadership.
  • Periodically review contractor-compliance clauses, evidence requirements and governance mechanisms in contracts and purchase orders.
5. Audits, Risk Management and Management Reporting
  • Lead internal, external and site-level statutory compliance audits, including audit planning, sampling methodology, root-cause analysis and closure validation.
  • Maintain labour-law risk registers, dashboards, management information reports, heat maps and exception reports for leadership review.
  • Support legal, compliance, governance and management-system audits, and ensure audit-ready records across entities and locations.
6. Government Liaison, Inspections and Disputes
  • Lead engagement with labour authorities, provident fund and employee state insurance authorities, factory inspectorates and other regulators.
  • Manage inspections, notices, inquiries, investigations and statutory proceedings; coordinate fact-finding and prepare or review responses with internal and external counsel.
  • Maintain centralised trackers for notices, disputes, litigation and regulatory commitments, with clear strategy, ownership and reporting.
  • Represent or support the organisation in conciliation proceedings, labour-court matters and other employment-related forums, as authorised.
7. Industrial Relations and Employee Relations
  • Provide strategic support on union engagement, collective bargaining, wage and bonus settlements, strikes, conciliation, workforce restructuring and grievance resolution.
  • Advise on disciplinary matters, domestic inquiries, standing orders, misconduct and workplace investigations in coordination with HR and Legal.
  • Anticipate industrial-relations risks and support management in maintaining stable and lawful employee relations across locations.
8. Labour Codes and Change Management
  • Lead organisational preparedness for implementation of the labour codes and related central and state rules.
  • Assess impact on wage structures, benefits, contracts, policies, operating models, systems and budgets, and drive cross-functional implementation plans.
  • Design and deliver management briefings, stakeholder workshops and practical guidance on regulatory changes.
9. Compliance Technology and Digitisation
  • Own functional implementation and governance of labour-compliance management tools, document repositories, dashboards, alerts and workflow automation.
  • Define data and evidence standards, access controls, review protocols and reporting requirements to maintain reliable, audit-ready records.
  • Use compliance analytics to identify trends, repeat exceptions and areas requiring management intervention.
10. Training and Capability Building

  • Expert knowledge of Indian central and state labour laws, social-security requirements and contractor labour compliance.
  • Strong legal and commercial judgement, with the ability to prioritise risk and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive accountability across functions, entities, sites, contractors and external advisers.
  • Excellent drafting, regulatory correspondence, investigation, negotiation and dispute-management skills.
  • Strong programme management, analytical, digital, documentation and management-reporting capabilities.
  • High integrity, discretion, ownership and ability to operate independently in complex or sensitive situations.
