  • Experience advising senior executives and managing external stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Shape policy and regulatory outcomes by leading advocacy across energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
  • Provide strategic counsel to country leadership on emerging policy trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and advance policy positions supporting business objectives and India’s energy transition priorities.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with central and state governments, regulators, PSUs, and multilateral institutions.
  • Lead Hitachi Energy’s government engagement and executive outreach activities.
  • Identify opportunities where government engagement accelerates market access and growth.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Law, International Relations or a related field

About the Role

As Lead, Government & Institutional Relations, you will help position Hitachi Energy as a trusted partner to governments, regulators, industry bodies, multilateral institutions, and strategic stakeholders shaping India’s energy future.

You will develop and drive Hitachi Energy’s external engagement and public affairs strategy across India. Serving as the company’s senior advisor on policy, regulatory and stakeholder matters, the role will proactively shape the external environment to protect business interests, position Hitachi Energy as an influential thought leader, and promote growth opportunities aligned with India’s energy, infrastructure and industrial development priorities.

The role operates across three strategic pillars:

  • Protect - Anticipate and mitigate policy, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Position - Strengthen Hitachi Energy’s credibility, influence, and thought leadership.
  • Promote - Enable business growth through advocacy, partnerships, and strategic stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shape Policy and Regulatory Outcomes
  • Lead Hitachi Energy’s advocacy agenda across key policy, regulatory, and legislative developments impacting the energy, power, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.
  • Provide strategic counsel to business and country leadership on emerging policy trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and advance policy positions that support business objectives and India’s energy transition priorities.
2. Build Strategic Government Relationships
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across central and state governments, regulatory authorities, public sector enterprises, and multilateral institutions.
  • Serve as Hitachi Energy’s primary interface with government stakeholders on matters of strategic importance.
  • Facilitate high-impact executive engagements that strengthen the company’s influence and visibility.
3. Advance Business Growth
  • Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities where government engagement and policy advocacy can accelerate market access, investment, project development, and growth.
  • Support strategic pursuits through stakeholder intelligence, engagement plans, and executive outreach.
  • Identify and leverage government initiatives, funding programs, and public‑private partnership opportunities aligned with Hitachi Energy’s priorities.
4. Strengthen Industry and Institutional Leadership
  • Represent Hitachi Energy across key industry associations, business forums, chambers, technical bodies, and policy platforms.
  • Build influential networks across utilities, industry leaders, think tanks, academia, and sustainability organizations.
  • Position Hitachi Energy as a leading voice on grid modernization, electrification, energy security, and sustainability.
5. Protect Corporate Reputation and Manage External Risks
  • Anticipate and assess political, regulatory, and stakeholder risks that may impact business operations, investments, or reputation.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement strategies to manage sensitive issues and support crisis preparedness and response.
  • Ensure timely insights and recommendations to leadership on critical external developments.
6. Drive Governance, Integrity and Compliance
  • Ensure all government and institutional engagement activities are conducted in accordance with Hitachi Energy’s values, integrity standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Promote responsible advocacy, transparency, and ethical stakeholder engagement across the organization.
  • Manage GIR planning, reporting, budgets, and performance effectiveness.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, Law, International Relations or a related field.
  • Advanced degrees in Public Policy, Business Administration, Economics or International Affairs is preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in Government Relations, Public Affairs, Policy Advocacy, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Affairs, or related leadership roles.
  • Experience in power, energy, infrastructure, industrial technology, utilities, or related sectors strongly preferred.
  • Experience of engaging with government institutions, regulators, industry bodies and strategic external stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Exposure to both public and private sector environments is highly desirable.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Deep understanding of India’s policy, regulatory and political landscape.
  • Strong knowledge of the power, energy transition, transmission, renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in advocacy, coalition-building and influencing public policy outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of trade associations, industry platforms and multistakeholder engagement models.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, multinational environment.
  • Experience advising senior executives and managing complex external stakeholder relationships.
