Job summary

Optum India is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our UnitedHealth Group engineering teams in Chennai. You will contribute to building high-quality distributed systems, mentor peers, and participate in design, implementation, testing, CI/CD, and production operations.

The role requires 5+ years in software development, strong CS fundamentals, and hands-on experience with Java Spring Boot, REST APIs, Python, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent certification.
• 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer.
• 2+ years of experience in any cloud environment (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Strong foundation in CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, OO design.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with the United AI Studio engineering teams to help solve business problems
• Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team's deliverables
• Write high quality distributed system software
• Decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions
• Perform code review and mentor junior engineers
• Should be flexible, adapting to meet the needs of the team, project, or product
• Mentoring and developing other engineers on the team
• Participate in the entire software development lifecycle - design, implementation, testing, CI/CD and production operations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, machine Learning, or related field or equivalent certification
• 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer or a Software Developer
• 2+ years of experience working in any cloud environment - Azure, AWS, GCP
• Experience working in a complex, service-oriented service development
• Good knowledge on technology stack like Java (Spring Boot), REST APIs, Python,
• Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build process, testing, and operations
• Proven solid computer science and development fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
• Proven exceptional communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with at least one relational or a NoSQL database
• Experience using terraform or other CI/CD IaC
• Experience in collaborating with geographically distributed teams
• Understanding of architecture and experience in design activities
• Knowledge or working experience on AI/ML projects
