Job summary

MoxiWorks in Pune seeks an experienced Senior WordPress Engineer to own the multi‑tenant WordPress platform architecture and drive scalable, secure software across thousands of tenant sites. You will collaborate with US and India teams to design, implement, and improve core services and integrations.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep PHP expertise.
Proven experience operating WordPress multisite at scale.
Strong plugin and theme development skills and REST API experience.
Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and integrating third‑party systems into WordPress.
Solid MySQL skills including schema design and query optimization.
Performance engineering with page/object caching and CDN usage.
Security-first mindset: hardening WordPress and data protection.
2+ years leading engineers, mentoring, and hiring.
Comfort with Git, CI/CD, Docker, and modern dev practices.
Excellent written and verbal English, able to communicate with US teams.

Responsibilities

Own architecture of a multi‑tenant WordPress platform at scale.
Set standards for plugin/theme development and coding practices in a multisite environment.
Design and govern integration contracts with core services (Roster, listings, MLS/IDX data, SSO).
Own performance and reliability with caching strategies and CDN behavior.
Contribute code, review critical PRs, and lead incident response.
Lead and grow a team of WordPress/PHP engineers, including mentoring and hiring.
Collaborate with Product and Design to translate roadmaps into deliverables.

What Qualifies You:

Own the architecture of the multi‑tenant WordPress platform — multisite topology, tenant isolation, site provisioning, domain/SSL automation, and upgrade strategy across thousands of tenant sites.
Set engineering standards for custom plugin and theme development: coding standards (WPCS), plugin boundaries, hook/filter discipline, and safe database access patterns at multisite scale.
Design and govern integration contracts with MoxiWorks core services — Roster (accounts/permissions), listings and MLS/IDX data, profiles, images, and SSO/auth.
Own performance and reliability: full‑page and object caching strategy, CDN behaviour, cache invalidation across tenants, and the consumer‑facing request flow.
Stay hands‑on — contribute code, review the hard PRs, and lead incident response (roughly 30–40% of your time).
Lead and grow a team of WordPress/PHP engineers — hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, growth plans, and coaching.
Raise the bar through design reviews, RFCs, pairing, and honest code review.

Delivery & Cross‑Functional

Partner with Product and Design to translate roadmap into well‑scoped engineering work; own delivery commitments.
Coordinate with US‑based engineering teams on shared services, release cadence, and cross‑product initiatives.
Write and maintain clear technical documentation — architecture notes, runbooks, provisioning guides, and upgrade playbooks.

Required Skills

8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep PHP expertise, including at least 4 years building on WordPress in production.
Proven experience operating WordPress multisite (or an equivalent multi‑tenant CMS architecture) at scale — tenant provisioning, isolation, shared plugins/themes, and network‑wide upgrades.
Strong custom plugin and theme development skills — actions/filters, custom post types and taxonomies, REST API endpoints, WP‑CLI tooling, and the WordPress database schema (including multisite tables).
Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and integrating third‑party systems (CRM, SSO/OAuth/SAML, data feeds) into WordPress.
Solid MySQL skills — schema design, indexing, query optimization, and debugging slow queries at multisite scale.
Performance engineering experience — page caching, object caching (Redis/Memcached), CDN integration, and cache invalidation strategies for multi‑tenant sites.
Security‑first mindset — hardening WordPress, sanitization/escaping/nonces, capability checks, plugin supply‑chain hygiene, and PII handling.
At least 2 years leading engineers (formal lead, tech lead, or staff engineer with people leverage) mentoring, code review, and hiring.
Comfort with Git, CI/CD, Docker‑based development, and modern engineering practices (code review, testing, logging, monitoring).
Excellent written and verbal English; able to communicate clearly with US‑based teammates and external partners over async and live channels.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Real estate data standards (RESO Data Dictionary, RESO Web API, RETS) or IDX/MLS feed integration experience.
Experience with headless WordPress or decoupled frontends (React, REST/GraphQL).
Ruby on Rails literacy — our core platform services are Rails; ability to read and reason about the API side is a plus.
AWS infrastructure literacy — EC2/ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, and debugging deployments.
Observability tooling — Datadog, New Relic, or comparable.
Experience with WordPress at agency or platform scale — hundreds to thousands of sites under one roof.
Contributions to WordPress core, plugins, or the open‑source ecosystem.
