Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled power systems engineer to lead HVDC system design and related studies. You will interpret complex technical inquiries, develop robust cost-effective solutions, and perform insulation coordination and network analyses.

You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements across projects. Applicants should have an engineering degree with power systems focus and hands-on experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent, and MATLAB.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with power systems & power electronics subjects, 2:1 or higher.
• Proven professional experience in power system engineering, HVDC system design preferred.
• Strong familiarity with system studies (load-flow, short circuit, stability) and EMT/insulation topics.

Responsibilities

• Interpret the customer’s technical enquiry and design cost-effective overall solutions for HVDC installations.
• Involved in the development and industrialization of solutions, tools, and processes.
• Perform insulation coordination studies and network studies.
• Create reliability and availability models for projects and report to clients.
• Provide engineering guidance to meet project requirements.
• Develop and industrialize solutions tools and processes.
• Improve design processes and enforce engineering discipline.
• Support and mentor other engineers to enhance team capability.

Requirements

• Educated with an Engineering degree (or equivalent) including power systems and power electronics subjects (minimum 2:1) with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering and preferably in HVDC System Design.
• Conversant with system tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent, RTDS, MATLAB, FORTRAN, Python and Isograph etc.
• RMS System studies such as load-flow, short circuit and stability (both the network and harmonics).
• EMT System studies such as transient overvoltages, TRV, Ferro resonance, ZMP etc.
• Insulation co-ordination and main equipment characteristics for HVDC.
• An expertise in the use of computer mathematical and simulation tools as applied to the design of the aforementioned activities.
• Power Quality Studies and mitigation measures of issues.
• A general understanding of the characteristics of HVDC Valves and their control systems.
