Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably in high voltage.
• 15 to 20 years of experience in high voltage design and planning.
• Proficient in preparing technical specifications and design calculations.
• Experience in design of overhead transmission, distribution lines, cables, and magnetic field calculations at 33kV–765kV.
• Experience preparing technical specs, design calculations, reports, drawings, and BOMs for HV power systems.
• Experience in grounding/earthing and lightning protection.
• Experience in simulation tools (COMSOL, CDEGS, PSCAD, EMTP).
• Knowledge of international HV standards.
• Excellent English skills (oral & written).
• MS Office proficiency (Excel, Word).

Job Description

Ramboll is looking for a technically ambitious and skilled electrical engineer to join our Chennai location. As a Senior/Lead Engineer, you will support high‑voltage design and detailed engineering of transmission, distribution, and offshore/onshore substation engineering activities for the Energy Systems group of the Ramboll Energy division.

Responsibilities & Tasks

• Design, review, and detailed engineering for HV power lines, HV cables, transmission, distribution substations.
• Calculate induced voltages due to nearby high voltage cables/overhead lines.
• Calculate inductive and capacitive coupling.
• Develop earthing and bonding concepts, including touch and step voltage calculations.
• Understand fault conditions in high voltage transmission grids.
• Prepare and review HV power cables, HV lines, magnetic field calculations and layouts.
• Prepare and review specifications and design of HV power systems and equipment.
• Perform magnetic field calculations using COMSOL, CDEGS, PSCAD, EMTP or similar software.
• Estimate man‑hours for CTR preparation and review tender documents.
• Prepare and evaluate general project documentation.
• Coordinate and follow up packages with system vendors.
• Coordinate with transmission system owners, substation owners/contractors, and issue follow‑up on CSS questionnaires.
• Handle multi‑discipline task‑oriented projects.
• Guide designers and draughtsmen.

Important Relations

• Head of Department/Lead Engineer/Senior Engineer & team.
• Collaboration with engineers in the project team of REN GEC and DK team.
• Collaboration with HV engineering counterparts in other REN offices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably high voltage engineering from a recognized university.
• 15 to 20 years of experience in high voltage design and planning activities.
• Completed at least one substation project including HV side and GIS/AIS switchboards.
• Experience designing overhead power transmission, distribution lines, cables, and magnetic field calculations at 33kV/110kV/132kV/220kV/230kV/400kV/765kV.
• Experience preparing technical specifications, design calculations, reports, drawings, and bills of materials for HV power systems.
• Experience in grounding/earthing and lightning protection.
• Experience in parametric modelling of cables, transformers, and other electrical equipment in simulation tools.
• Experience in planning and design of overhead power lines, underground HV cables, substations, and grid rearrangement.
• Experience resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections during construction.
• Proficiency in project management tools and software for cost management, scheduling, and progress tracking.
• Experience in HVAC and HVDC transmission line design and concepts.
• Experience with COMSOL, CDEGS, PSCAD, EMTP or similar EMF/EMT software.
• Experience conducting technical, economic, and environmental studies.
• Knowledge of international high voltage standards.
• Excellent English skills, both oral and written.
• Skilled user of Microsoft Office – Excel, Word.
