Job summary

TransUnion is seeking a Lead Developer, Software Development, to architect and deliver scalable, secure software in a hybrid Bengaluru setting. You will lead backend and full-stack initiatives, own technical delivery, and mentor engineers across multiple streams.

You will guide architecture discussions, ensure code quality, and collaborate with a cross-functional team to meet production excellence goals while advancing automation and AI-assisted development practices.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of professional software development experience in Agile environments.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile frameworks, system architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience leading end-to-end feature delivery and mentoring engineering teams.
• Experience implementing secure software development practices and performance optimization.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with demonstrated technical leadership.

Team Overview

The Engineering Delivery Team is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing technology solutions that support TransUnion’s strategic business initiatives. The team drives end-to-end product delivery through close collaboration with Product, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and Operations partners, while fostering engineering excellence, innovation, and operational stability.

This role operates within the Global Technology organization and works closely with Engineering Managers, Architects, Product Owners, QA Leads, and cross-functional delivery teams to successfully execute complex technology programs. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

As a Lead Developer, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise across complex initiatives, ensuring the delivery of scalable, resilient, and secure software solutions. You will own technical design, development, solution quality, and delivery outcomes while mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices across the team.

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of backend and full-stack applications using modern frameworks, cloud-native technologies, and microservices architecture.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable solution designs, architecture diagrams, and implementation plans that align with enterprise standards.
• Provide hands-on development leadership through coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and technical guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Drive feature ownership from estimation through deployment, ensuring timely delivery, proactive risk mitigation, and minimal dependency on project oversight.
• Establish and uphold engineering best practices related to security, code quality, vulnerability management, automated testing, and maintainability.
• Oversee branch management, code integration, release readiness, and merge activities to ensure seamless delivery across multiple initiatives and development streams.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, QA teams, and DevOps engineers to refine requirements, manage dependencies, and ensure successful product delivery.
• Support quality assurance efforts by validating functionality, improving test coverage, and ensuring production readiness when required.
• Lead production issue resolution, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures that improve platform reliability and reduce technical debt.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent through coaching, knowledge sharing, technical reviews, and cross-functional skill development initiatives.
• Drive adoption of automation, AI-assisted development practices, and modern engineering tools to improve team productivity and software quality.
• Ensure comprehensive technical documentation and knowledge transfer to support operational continuity and team scalability.

Required Knowledge And Experiences

• 8-12+ years of professional software development experience, including leading technical delivery of enterprise-scale applications and complex software initiatives in Agile environments.
• Strong understanding ofSoftware Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum/Kanban), system architecture, and distributed systems design, enabling successful delivery of scalable business solutions.
• Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end feature delivery, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing technical dependencies, and driving engineering execution.
• Experience implementing secure software development practices, performance optimization techniques, and operational support processes for business-critical applications.
• Proven ability to mentor engineering teams, provide technical leadership, facilitate architecture discussions, and influence engineering best practices across teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience with demonstrated technical leadership will also be considered.
