The Communications Lead will play both a strategic and hands-on role in shaping how the organization communicates its mission, vision, and impact across the nonprofit ecosystem. This role will strengthen core communications assets, co-create narrative platforms, and ensure compelling, consistent messaging across teams, partners, and external audiences.

The Communications Lead will manage social media presence, coordinate with external partners such as design and production agencies, and drive brand and narrative initiatives. Additionally, the role will oversee communications for flagship events in India and globally, helping position the organization as a thought leader and systems enabler in the social impact sector.

This role is ideal for a professional who thrives at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and execution, and who can combine creativity with precision to amplify nonprofit impact.

Primary Responsibilities

Narrative Building

  • Develop compelling narratives that reflect the organization’s mission and impact, tailored for diverse stakeholders including funders, NGOs, partners, and the public.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to refine messages that align with strategic priorities.
  • Shape the organization’s voice and story to strengthen its positioning in the nonprofit and philanthropy ecosystem.

Content Strategy & Delivery

  • Design and manage content calendars, ensuring timely delivery across digital and offline platforms.
  • Track sector and media trends to produce relevant, engaging, and insight-driven content.
  • Evaluate communications effectiveness using data and analytics; recommend strategies for improvement.

Thought Leadership & Public Relations

  • Lead the development of thought leadership content including blogs, op-eds, speeches, and presentations.
  • Coordinate content creation with internal teams, leadership, and external contributors.
  • Ensure all communications uphold brand guidelines and narrative priorities.
  • Manage relationships with PR agencies and track media coverage to build consistent, strategic visibility.

Branding & Visibility

  • Strengthen brand identity across all communications, ensuring consistency across social media, newsletters, websites, and publications.
  • Manage digital campaigns and storytelling strategies to amplify reach and impact.
  • Ensure digital platforms (including the website) are regularly updated with fresh, accurate, and engaging content.

Essential Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with expertise in storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Proven experience leading communications initiatives across digital platforms, events, and internal teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align communications with organizational goals.
  • Hands-on experience managing social media channels, including content planning, publishing, and performance tracking.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining communications assets (e.g., decks, newsletters, reports, videos).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience managing external partners (designers, PR agencies, content creators, production teams).
  • Familiarity with brand and narrative development in a mission-driven, nonprofit, or multi-stakeholder context.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 6 - 8 years of relevant work experience in the nonprofit, philanthropy, or social impact ecosystem.
  • Experience leading communications for campaigns, global convenings, or multi-partner initiatives.
  • Proficiency with design and publishing tools (Canva, PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Suite a plus).
  • Familiarity with media relations, thought leadership frameworks, and digital analytics (LinkedIn Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.)
