Job summary

Nomni is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to own core backend services, shape architecture, and drive engineering excellence across the platform. You will lead a team, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, design, and other teams to deliver scalable, secure systems powering venues and users.

The role emphasizes building robust microservices, improving observability and CI/CD, and introducing best practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend development experience with at least 2 years in leadership
• Proficient in backend languages (Node.js/TypeScript, Python or Go) and API/microservice design
• Strong cloud experience (AWS) and container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Experience leading teams, mentoring developers, and driving delivery
• Solid understanding of system architecture, databases, caching, and distributed systems
• Commitment to clean code, automation, and continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and collaboration with product and design teams

About The Role

We’re searching for a Lead Backend Engineer who’s passionate about building robust, scalable systems and leading engineering excellence. In this role, you’ll take ownership of core backend services that power Nomni’s ecosystem, help shape architecture and infrastructure decisions, and work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver real impact.

You’ll lead a team of talented backend engineers, mentor them in best practices, and help drive the technical roadmap. Whether it’s payments, loyalty engines, merchant APIs, or internal tooling — your work will underpin mission‑critical experiences for venues and users alike.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development experience, with 2+ years in a technical or team leadership role
• Expertise in backend languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or Go (we’re mostly Node + TypeScript)
• Deep knowledge of building and maintaining APIs, microservices, and data‑driven applications
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes)
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams, mentor developers, and drive delivery
• Solid understanding of system architecture, databases (SQL & NoSQL), caching, and distributed systems
• Passion for clean code, automation, and continuous improvement
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative, product‑oriented mindset

Good to Have

• Experience in fintech, payments, loyalty, or hospitality tech
• Familiarity with event‑driven systems, Kafka, or message queues
• Experience with serverless architectures or GraphQL APIs
• Exposure to PCI compliance, security practices, and handling sensitive data
• Startup/scale‑up experience with ownership over full development cycles
• Contributions to developer tooling or internal platforms
