About The Role
We’re searching for a Lead Backend Engineer who’s passionate about building robust, scalable systems and leading engineering excellence. In this role, you’ll take ownership of core backend services that power Nomni’s ecosystem, help shape architecture and infrastructure decisions, and work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver real impact.
You’ll lead a team of talented backend engineers, mentor them in best practices, and help drive the technical roadmap. Whether it’s payments, loyalty engines, merchant APIs, or internal tooling — your work will underpin mission‑critical experiences for venues and users alike.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a team of backend and full‑stack engineers delivering high‑impact projects across the Nomni platform
- Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices with a focus on performance, security, and reliability
- Own technical architecture and infrastructure decisions within your domain
- Set and enforce coding standards, review code, and ensure best practices in backend development
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to scope and deliver end‑to‑end solutions
- Drive improvements in observability, monitoring, and alerting across services
- Support rapid iteration through CI/CD, testing frameworks, and developer tooling
- Mentor engineers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture
- Stay ahead of industry trends, tools, and technologies, and bring relevant insights to the team
Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend development experience, with 2+ years in a technical or team leadership role
- Expertise in backend languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or Go (we’re mostly Node + TypeScript)
- Deep knowledge of building and maintaining APIs, microservices, and data‑driven applications
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes)
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams, mentor developers, and drive delivery
- Solid understanding of system architecture, databases (SQL & NoSQL), caching, and distributed systems
- Passion for clean code, automation, and continuous improvement
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative, product‑oriented mindset
Good to Have
- Experience in fintech, payments, loyalty, or hospitality tech
- Familiarity with event‑driven systems, Kafka, or message queues
- Experience with serverless architectures or GraphQL APIs
- Exposure to PCI compliance, security practices, and handling sensitive data
- Startup/scale‑up experience with ownership over full development cycles
- Contributions to developer tooling or internal platforms
