Job description

The Lab Technician will be responsible for collecting, processing, and testing patient samples in the hospital laboratory while maintaining accuracy, safety, and documentation standards. This requires knowledge of laboratory procedures, sample handling, equipment operation, quality control, and infection prevention. The candidate will coordinate with doctors, nurses, patients, and laboratory teams to support timely and reliable diagnostic reporting.

Responsibilities

• Collect, receive, label, and process blood, urine, and other patient samples as per laboratory procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory tests in hematology, biochemistry, serology, clinical pathology, or microbiology as assigned.
• Verify patient details, sample type, test request, and labeling before processing.
• Operate laboratory instruments and equipment under approved procedures and supervision.
• Maintain accurate test records, worksheets, sample registers, and laboratory documentation.
• Follow quality control procedures and report abnormal results or equipment issues to senior staff.
• Ensure proper sample storage, handling, transport, and disposal as per laboratory standards.
• Coordinate with doctors, nurses, reception, and patients for sample collection and report-related requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in the laboratory work area.
• Follow infection control, PPE, biomedical waste, and laboratory safety practices.
• Prepare reagents, consumables, and testing materials required for daily laboratory work.
• Support calibration, maintenance, and routine checks of laboratory equipment.
• Assist in emergency sample processing and priority test handling when required.
