Job summary

Yogayatan Ports seeks a Lab Technician (Civil Road Works) to perform field and laboratory tests on construction materials for road projects. You will ensure compliance with project specs and approved quality standards at both site and laboratory facilities.

The role requires testing soils, aggregates, bitumen, asphalt, cement, and concrete, with experience in IS/MORTH/ASTM standards, and the ability to document results clearly. On-site and laboratory work, with attention to safety, is essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma/ITI in Civil Engineering or relevant technical qualification.
• Experience in road/highway construction laboratory testing is preferred.
• Knowledge of IS, MORTH, ASTM and project specifications.
• Ability to operate standard civil material testing equipment.
• Basic computer and report-preparation skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples of soil, aggregates, bitumen, asphalt, cement, concrete, and other construction materials.
• Conduct laboratory and field tests as per project specifications and applicable IS/ASTM/MORTH standards.
• Perform soil tests such as moisture content, sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, Proctor compaction, and field density tests.
• Conduct aggregate tests including sieve analysis, impact/crushing value, flakiness and elongation, specific gravity, and water absorption.
• Carry out tests on bitumen and bituminous mixes, including penetration, ductility, softening point, and relevant mix-quality tests.
• Conduct field density and compaction tests for subgrade, GSB, and WMM layers.
• Assist with testing of concrete, cement, and other materials where required.
• Monitor material quality at site and report any non-conforming materials or test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing instruments, calibration records, and housekeeping.
• Prepare daily test reports, laboratory records, sample registers, and quality documentation.
• Ensure proper identification, storage, and handling of samples.
• Coordinate with site engineers, QA/QC engineers, and material suppliers regarding testing requirements.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures and laboratory practices.
