Job description

Applications are invited for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India-funded research project at GITAM University, Hyderabad.

Project Title

Deterministic Creation and Characterization of Negatively Charged Single Boron Vacancies in Hexagonal Boron Nitride for Quantum Technologies

Project Description

This project aims to develop deterministic approaches for creating quantum defects in exfoliated and large‑defect CVD‑grown hexagonal boron nitride (h‑BN) using advanced nanofabrication techniques. The successful candidate will be involved in extensive spectroscopic and microscopic characterization to understand defect formation and quantum emission properties. The project will be conducted in collaboration with IIT Bombay and Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work within an international research team comprising faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral students.

Essential Qualifications

  • Familiarity with XRD, SEM, AFM, Photoluminescence (PL), and Raman spectroscopy
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
Position Details
  • Duration: 3 Years
  • Fellowship: As per DST norms
  • JRF: ₹37,000 per month + applicable HRA (Years 1–2)
  • SRF: ₹42,000 per month + applicable HRA (Year 3, subject to eligibility)
  • Eligibility criteria, including age requirements, shall be governed by DST guidelines.
