Job Description
Substation and Switchyard Structural Design
- Prepare structural design drawings for substation and switchyard equipment support structures — gantry frames, A-frames, equipment pedestals, bus-support structures, and lightning mast foundations at 11 kV, 33kV, 66 kV, and 132 kV voltage levels
- Develop substation and switchyard structural layout drawings — equipment foundation positions, cable trench routing, cable duct banks, and control building structural layout
- Carry out structural analysis using STAAD Pro for gantry structures, equipment supports, cable trench walls, duct banks, and control building frames — gravity loads, wind loads, seismic loads, and equipment dynamic loads
- Prepare column, beam, footing, and slab design calculations for substation control buildings and pump house structures as per IS 456 and IS 800
- Design and detail structural steel elements — gantry columns, rafters, bracing, and bolted connections as per IS 800 and IS 875
- Prepare reinforced concrete design calculations for equipment foundations, cable trenches, transformer plinth, circuit breaker foundations, and cable duct banks as per IS 456 and IS 1893
3D Modelling and Structural Detailing (Tekla Structures)
- Build 3D structural models of substation gantry structures, control buildings, equipment support frames, and cable trench systems in Tekla Structures
- Produce fabrication-level structural steel shop drawings — general arrangement (GA) drawings, part drawings, connection details, bolt schedules, and weld schedules from the Tekla model
- Generate bar bending schedules (BBS) and reinforcement detailing drawings for all RCC elements directly from the Tekla model
- Coordinate structural model with electrical equipment layout received from the Electrical Design team — verify clearances, foundation positions, and cable trench alignments
- Manage model revisions in Tekla; issue IFC-level drawings from the model following ETPL drawing revision control standards
Foundation and Geotechnical Coordination
- Prepare equipment foundation designs for transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs, surge arresters, and control buildings — sizing, reinforcement, and anchor bolt design
- Interpret soil investigation reports (SIR) — safe bearing capacity, subgrade modulus, liquefaction potential — and apply geotechnical inputs to foundation designs
- Coordinate with geotechnical consultant or client for SIR data; raise RFIs for missing geotechnical information through the Lead Engineer
- Prepare pile design inputs where shallow foundations are not feasible; coordinate pile layout drawings with geotechnical design
Transmission Line Tower — Structural Scope
- Prepare tower foundation design drawings and calculations for transmission line towers — pad-and-chimney foundations, well foundations, and rock anchor foundations per IS 4091 and CBIP Manual on Transmission Lines
- Assist in tower body geometry drawings and tower schedule preparation in coordination with the Lead Structural Engineer
- Carry out wind load calculations on tower structures per IS 875 Part 3 and transmission line design standards
Civil Coordination and Drainage
- Prepare site grading and drainage layout drawings for substation area — finished floor levels, storm water drainage channels, and slope grading
- Coordinate with the electrical team for cable routed drawings and cable trench cross-sections; produce civil sections for trench construction
- Prepare road layout and hardstanding area design for substation premises — road widths, turning radii, transformer rolling path, and cable bridge design
Bill of Quantities and Material Schedule
- Prepare complete structural BOQ covering structural steel tonnage, RCC volumes, reinforcement quantities, anchor bolts, and structural hardware
- Prepare vendor-neutral technical specifications for fabricated structural steel, structural fasteners, anchor bolts, and precast elements
- Review structural steel fabrication drawings and RCC detailing drawings from contractors; raise technical queries through the Lead Engineer
Quality, Standards, and Documentation
- Ensure all structural drawings comply with ETPL drawing standards — title block, sheet numbering, revision block, and layer convention — and applicable IS, IEC, and IS codes
- Participate in internal drawing review cycles; respond to all review comments within 24 hours of receipt
- Maintain structural design registers, drawing trackers, and revision history in project systems
- Prepare structural design basis notes and calculation reports for submission to client or statutory authorities
Requirements
- Diploma in Civil Engineering (Minimum Qualification)
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil or Structural Engineering (Preferred)
- 1–3 years of structural design experience
- Proficiency in STAAD Pro and Tekla Structures
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and MS Excel
- Knowledge of RCC Design, Structural Steel Design, Foundation Engineering, and relevant IS Codes
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Competitive salary package
- Exposure to utility and infrastructure projects
- Learning and development opportunities
- Collaborative engineering environment
