Job summary

Bounteous India is seeking an experienced Senior Android Developer to own the Android codebase from inception, building a greenfield app wrapped with a Flutter layer. You will establish architecture, conventions, and standards while collaborating with a distributed team of engineers.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on Android development, strong Kotlin and Jetpack Compose skills, and experience with modern Android architectures. Hybrid approaches may be considered as needed.

We are looking for a Senior Android Developer who can create custom applications. This position will be responsible for taking projects through the entire life cycle. You will tackle problems and resolve complex issues, while working in a distributed environment with a team of outstanding engineers. App is a Flutter wrapper with no existing native Android codebase, so the role also involves actively establishing the architecture, conventions, and technical standards the Android codebase will run on from day one.

Core Competencies

Candidates must demonstrate strong proficiency in all four of the following areas to be considered.

Required for this role

• Kotlin - production-level proficiency required.
• Clean Architecture - hands-on experience designing scalable, maintainable Android applications.
• Jetpack Compose - ability to build modern, declarative UIs in a production environment.
• Unit Testing - proven ability to write comprehensive unit tests; striving for full coverage is expected.

Responsibilities

• Write well designed, efficient Kotlin code that works across devices.
• Design and build modern Android user interfaces using Jetpack Compose.
• Build scalable and maintainable architectures using MVVM / Clean Architecture principles.
• Use Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for asynchronous and reactive programming.
• Implement modularized Android architectures for large-scale applications.
• Actively identify, prioritize, and address technical debt across the codebase.
• Help establish the Android codebase's architecture and conventions from scratch, since there is no legacy code to inherit or migrate.
• Support continuous improvement by staying up-to-date with the rapidly evolving mobile development world.
• Use modern development workflows including Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated builds.
• Actively participate in client meetings.
• Work independently on coding tasks and provide support to more junior team members.
• Own architectural decisions and lead Android projects from inception through delivery.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices across the team.
• Apply solid understanding of information security procedures and baseline controls (password security, malware controls, clear desks, incident reporting).

Experience

• 5+ years of professional hands-on Android Development experience.

Core Android Skills

• Proficiency with Android SDK.
• Kotlin proficiency is required (see Core Competencies); Java experience with a drive to learn Kotlin may be considered as an alternative background.
• Experience with Jetpack libraries such as ViewModel, LiveData/Flow, Navigation, Room, and WorkManager.
• Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
• Experience with additional architecture patterns (MVVM, MVP, MVI) is a plus.
• Experience designing an Android app's architecture from scratch is a strong plus, given this is a greenfield build.
• Experience with app performance optimization, including memory management and Android profiling tools.
• Experience with Google Play Store deployment, release management, and compliance.
• Familiarity with Android security best practices such as secure storage, certificate pinning, and data encryption.

Cross-Platform

• Alternatively, deep experience in Swift or Objective-C (iOS development) with an eagerness to grow in a second platform may be considered.
• Willingness to learn and work with iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and other technologies beyond native Android development.

Testing & Quality

• Unit testing is required - comprehensive coverage expected on all production code (see Core Competencies).
• Experience with UI and instrumentation testing frameworks (Espresso, UI Automator).

DevOps & Tooling

• Proficiency with version control using Git (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket).
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Fastlane, Bitrise, or GitHub Actions.
• Comfortable with distributed team collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Slack, etc.).

Design & Leadership

• An understanding of design and the ability to fill gaps for example, if a design doesn't cover all screen sizes or isn't consistent.
• Ability and ambition to lead Android projects and guide architectural decisions.

Process & Soft Skills

• Worked with Agile development, preferably SCRUM.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Good to Have

• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG / TalkBack).
• Familiarity with the Firebase Analytics tool.
