Job summary

Varite in Bangalore is seeking a Senior Backend Developer with 5+ years of experience to join a team supporting and enhancing internal applications and platforms. You will work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and operations to debug issues, improve design, and automate workflows.

The role emphasizes maintaining production systems, building automation, and contributing to microservices architecture, REST APIs, and CI/CD processes while participating in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of software development / technical support experience with exposure to production systems.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive resolution of complex technical issues from investigation through permanent fixes within defined SLAs.
• Debug and troubleshoot backend applications and distributed systems across application, service, and infrastructure layers.
• Implement simple code changes, including bug fixes, enhancements, and operational improvements.
• Contribute to building and maintaining automation, tooling, and scripts to reduce manual operational overhead.
• Understanding of microservices-based architectures and support service-to-service communication.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to improve system stability along with application owners.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and effective issue resolution.
• Create and maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, and debugging guides.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support business-critical applications.

About The Job:

• We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing critical internal applications and platforms. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who brings a strong software development background and enjoys working close to production systems, solving complex problems, and improving system reliability through code and automation.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support incident management, on-call operations, and Ask_UCF, while improving tooling and automation to reduce operational overhead. Key deliverables include Ask_UCF automation, on-call tooling, CMON improvements, and code-health initiatives.

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java fundamentals, including reading, debugging, and understanding service workflows.
• Strong experience with Linux environments and production troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Python and/or Bash.
• Should know basics of software development & able to write & read basic code
• Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and familiarity with non-relational databases (e.g., Couchbase).
• Experience supporting & developing microservices and REST-based APIs.
• Experience balancing feature development with operational stability
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and production deployment processes.
• Experience working in Agile / iterative development environments.
• Experience in writing test cases and building automation frameworks for regression tests.
• Prior experience building internal tools or automation frameworks.
• Ability to quickly ramp up on large codebases and complex systems.
• Experience balancing development work with operational ownership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-driven mindset with a high sense of ownership.
