Job summary

Astro Academy in Chennai is seeking a bilingual translator to translate documents between English and Japanese. The role focuses on accuracy, terminology consistency, and maintaining style across business and technical materials.

Responsibilities include translation, proofreading, glossary building, and collaboration with internal teams. The position requires JLPT N4+ with N3 preferred, and a willingness to work from our Chennai office.

Qualifications

• JLPT N4 minimum; N3 preferred.
• Good reading and writing skills in Japanese and English.
• Good knowledge of Hiragana, Katakana and basic to intermediate Kanji.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Willingness to work from our Chennai office.
• Graduate in any discipline.

Role & responsibilities

• Translate documents from English to Japanese and from Japanese to English
• Keep every translation accurate, clear and true to the meaning of the original
• Translate business documents, technical documents, manuals, reports, presentations and other written content
• Proofread and edit translated documents to correct grammar, spelling and formatting
• Keep the same terms and style across all documents
• Build and maintain glossaries and reference material for repeated terms
• Meet deadlines and keep documents confidential
• Work with internal teams to clarify context or unclear content

Career Growth

• First year: Document translation only (English Japanese)
• After the first year: Roles and responsibilities will expand based on your performance.
