Job summary

CanKids KidsCan is seeking an Intern-Teacher to support the Education Team by delivering structured learning experiences for children undergoing cancer treatment. You will assist in planning sessions, maintain records, support assessments and engage with children and caregivers.

Under guidance of the Education Head, you will use child-friendly teaching methods, adapt to health conditions, and collaborate with parents and schools to ensure continuity of learning.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Special Education, or related disciplines.
  • Cancer Survivors who are Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior internship, volunteer experience or teaching experience with children is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Prior work experience with children with health impairments or learning disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong communication and coordination with parents and caregivers.

  • Observe and gradually facilitate classroom activities.
  • Support individualized learning where required.
  • Maintain attendance logs and student progress records.

Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKids KidsCan, the National Society for Change For Childhood Cancer In India partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to enable access and best standards of treatment, care and support across 60 cities and 22 states of India.

Catering to childhood cancer patients from primarily underprivileged families, CanKids is present in 141 hospitals across India. Through our signature programYANA (You Are Not Alone)– CanKids provides medical, drugs & diagnostics support, accommodation through Home Away from Homes, , patient transport, blood support, nutrition & rations, education and counselling support.

In order to increaseAccess2Care, CanKids has MOUs with 8 state governments asknowledgeandtechnical partnersfor childhood cancer and 16 State Projects Across India.

Job Description
Role Overview

The Intern Teacher will support the Education Teamin delivering structured learning experiences for children undergoing cancertreatment. Working under the guidance of the Education Head/Teacher, the internwill assist in planning and conducting educational sessions, maintainingrecords, supporting assessments, and engaging with children and caregiverswhile gaining practical experience in pediatric education.

Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & StudentSupport
  • Carryout daily teaching sessions in OPD/IPD or in schoolrooms.
  • Observeand gradually facilitate classroom activities.
  • Supportindividualized learning where required.
2. Parent & CommunityCoordination
  • Workclosely with parents and caregivers for academic continuity.
  • Sensitize parents and reintegrated home school staff on cancer andpost-treatment effects.
  • Assistin identifying and filling out scholarship forms, ensuring all necessarydocuments are collected.
  • Organize regular parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) to discuss children progress.
  • Following-upwith children for their reintegration purposes.
3. Documentation &Reporting
  • Maintain vCAN entries for all educational and support assistance provided.
  • Coordinatewith the SST (Social Support Team) for holistic child development.
  • Maintain all records related to attendance, learning progress, diagnosticassessments (DA), PEP execution, student evaluations, and individual growthtracking.
  • Support preparation of monthly progress reports.
  • Followingup with children to know their progress and schooling status.
  • Knowledgeof child-friendly teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills to work with parents andcaregivers.
  • Abilityto adapt teaching methods based on student needs and health conditions.
  • Proficiencyin record-keeping and student progress tracking.
  • Familiaritywith digital learning tools and online tutoring platforms is a plus.
Qualifications &Experience
  • Undergraduateor Graduate in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, SpecialEducation, or related disciplines.
  • Candidates from other streams with demonstrated interest in educationand child development may also apply. Cancer Survivors who are Fresh graduates areencouraged to apply.
  • Priorinternship, volunteer experience or teaching experience with children isdesirable but not mandatory.
  • Priorwork experience with children with health impairments or learningdisabilities is preferred.
Operational Duties
  • Support awareness sessions and educational activities.
  • Use interactive and visual learning tools to support diverse learning needs.
  • Ensure students receive remedial support where required.
2. StudentMonitoring & Reporting
  • Conduct diagnostic and periodic assessments to track student progress.
  • Maintain attendance logs and individual performance reports for each student.
  • Followup on reintegration status and continued learning support.
3. Parent &Community Engagement
  • Organize awareness sessions and sensitization workshops for parents.
  • Ensure regular communication with parents on student progress.
  • Collaboratewith local schools for reintegration efforts.
