Job description

Intern, People Analytics (Payroll & PF Compliance)
Working at Teach For India

Teach For India is on a journey to reach an India free of poverty and filled with love by ending educational inequity in our country. Fifteen years into our journey we are a movement of ~5000+ Alumni working at all levels of the education system, who are reaching 1 in 10 children across the country. These Alumni have graduated from our two-year Fellowship Program where they taught in under-resourced classrooms to put ~33,500 low-income children on a different life path. Today, we have ~1000 Fellows and are the largest pipeline of driven, skilled talent into the educational ecosystem in India.Over 16,000 Teach For India students have appeared for the 10th grade board examinations till date, with an impressive 95% pass rate across cities as of November 2024.

In 2022, we embarked on Phase 4, our fourth strategic phase. We have a bold and ambitious ten-year journey ahead of us that aims to grow 50,000 leaders, who will work collectively, and with love, to transform the lives of 1 in 10 low-income children in our regions, through an education that unleashes the potential of self, others and India. In this decade, five key priorities will lead us to this vision.

  • Strengthen our core Fellowship to build strong teacher leaders who provide an excellent and equitable education to our children and continue to do so beyond the Fellowship
  • Scale our impact by strategically introducing additional Fellowships as alternative pathways for leadership development
  • Match the Alumni of our programs at an intersection of their interests and the needs of the system and our children
  • Advocate for key issues that impact educational equity, and engage 3.5% of the population in the movement for educational equity
  • Act collectively with our Alumni to learn about and address key issues in our regions.

Our work will only be completed when we have built a movement of leaders that is large enough to ensure that every child in India attains an excellent education.

We pride ourselves as being a passionate, idealistic, mission-driven team of individuals. We’re committed to learning and excellence in our roles, and to being deeply rooted in our core values.

Position Summary

Reports to: Associate , People Analytics

Team: People Analytics, HR Team

Type: Full-time Internship

Location: Mumbai (hybrid, based on need)

Duration: 3 months (extendable based on performance)

Provident Fund (PF) is new ground for our HR Team. We are setting it up properly for the first time, which means this role is as much about building the system as running it. The person who joins will make PF work reliably across our platforms, our consultants, and every Fellow and Staff member who depends on it being correct.

The core expectation is accountability. PF touches people's salaries and our statutory compliance, so the work has to be accurate, consistent and traceable. Just as important, everything you build should outlast you. A central part of this role is creating clear, dependable documentation so that PF does not sit with one person. Tomorrow, anyone should be able to pick up the work without a wait, because the process is structured, recorded and easy to follow.

Why This Role Is a Great Place to Start

You'll get a front-row seat to how a large non-profit builds a compliant, well-run People Operations function from scratch — rare exposure for an internship. You'll learn payroll and statutory compliance fundamentals, build real systems and process skills, and see your work land directly in the experience of every Fellow and Staff member who is paid on time and understands their PF clearly. It's detail-oriented work with real, visible impact.

Responsibilities

As an Intern, People Analytics, you will work on:

1. Consultant coordination and government platforms

  • Work with our PF consultants as the main point of contact for filings and portal work, keeping government platforms including the EPFO site updated in line with joiners, exits and other organisational changes.
  • Track what has been filed, what is pending and what needs follow up, and hold consultants to agreed timelines.
  • Act as an informed point of reference on PF compliance in these conversations.

2. Payroll audits and compliance checks

  • Run regular audits of PF data against payroll to confirm deductions, contributions and filings are accurate and in line with the latest rules.
  • Flag discrepancies early, record how they were resolved, and use what you notice to tighten the process over time.

3. Systems and documentation set up

  • Configure and align Salesforce and Darwinbox so they capture PF data accurately, and build the documentation layer around them: process notes, checklists, decision logs and a knowledge base covering common queries and the unusual cases that come up.
  • This is the handover backbone of the role. It should be complete enough that a new person could run PF from your records alone

4. Onboarding and exit support

  • Resolve PF filing queries for monthly joiners and for those who have exited, so both ends of the employee experience stay smooth.
  • Keep onboarding and offboarding PF steps documented so they run the same way every month.
Additional Responsibilities

As an Intern at Teach For India

  • Contributing to the team goals and priorities beyond individual goals and priorities.
  • Driving internal alignment and support for Teach For India’s core Programs.
  • Serving as an ambassador of the Teach For India brand and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country through both internal and external communication after committing time in our classrooms to understand our work more deeply.
  • Supporting with key organizational areas such as Recruitment, Selection, Fundraising, Volunteering, Movement Building.
Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations
  • Prior PF experience. You have worked on Provident Fund before, whether in payroll, compliance or HR operations, and understand how filings, contributions and the EPFO portal work in practice.
  • A builder's instinct for knowledge and documentation. You are willing to turn what you know into structured, reusable records, and you see documentation as core to the job rather than an afterthought.
  • Accuracy and follow through. This role touches salaries and compliance, so consistency and reliability matter more than speed.
  • Working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets. You will be tracking, auditing and updating PF data regularly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication. You will explain PF to people who have never thought about it, so clarity matters.
Preferred Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or Darwinbox, though this can be learned on the job.
  • A collaborative approach, since you will work closely with your Manager, HR colleagues, consultants and Staff and Fellows across the organisation.
