Job summary

Royal Bank of Scotland seeks an Infrastructure Engineer to engineer cloud and on‑prem infrastructure with security, resilience and observability baked in. You will automate tests, enable CI/CD, and collaborate across teams to drive product features and platform reliability.

You will implement infrastructure‑as‑code solutions, work with load balancers, WAF and network deliverables, and participate in continuous improvement through automation and standardisation. Hours: 45.

Qualifications

• Experience in software development or automation scripting with Python or Shell and understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Strong grasp of Agile practices and related toolsets to relate work to feature team goals.
• Experience building and maintaining infrastructure as code with modern tooling.

Join us as an Infrastructure Engineer

You'll engineer infrastructure technology for public and private cloud environments, complying with security, resilience, sustainability, and operational requirements with observability and guardrails built in. You'll also use automation to provide testing and a route to live for the product, working with customers to help them use our products appropriately through a users' CI or CD pipeline. This is a chance to work with colleagues across the bank to share engineering best practices, allowing you to expand your network and gain exposure for you and your work. We're offering this role at associate level.

What you'll do

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you'll contribute to and manage the selection, creation and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers, strategic targets and architecture outcomes, along with developing products using modern engineering practices and tools.

We'll look to you to collaborate with stakeholders to inform product roadmaps, detailing lifecycles of the technology from new products through to end of support and retirement. You'll also support engineered products and respond to user feedback, new feature requests and resolve production issues wanted by the Product Owner.

Additionally, you'll:

• Develop technical skills through continuous learning and development
• Work within a team to design intuitive, self-service infrastructure products
• Contribute to the delivery of infrastructure as code solutions
• Work with users to help use our products and gain feedback
• Provide operational support for pattern or product related issues

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you'll have experience in software development or automation scripting such as Python or Shell, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle. You'll also have experience in utilizing modern infrastructure as code via tooling.

We'll expect you to bring a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets with the ability to relate everyday work to the vision of the feature team, platform and domain.

Furthermore, you'll need:

• Develop and maintain expertise across F5 ADC, Global Load Balancing (GTM/GSLB), Web Application Firewall (WAF), NGINX Ingress Controller, NGINX App Protect, and Broadcom AVI Load Balancer platforms.
• Work within a team to design and deliver secure, resilient, self-service application delivery services.
• Contribute to Infrastructure as Code and automation solutions using GitLab and Ansible.
• Partner with application and platform teams to onboard workloads and optimise traffic management, security, and availability.
• Provide operational support and engineering guidance for application delivery, ingress, load balancing, and WAF services.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, standardisation, and platform enhancements.
• Develop technical skills through continuous learning and professional development.
• Generate innovative ideas and translate them into product improvements and new platform capabilities
