Urban Company is seeking a motivated and analytically strong Business Finance Intern to join the team in Gurugram, Haryana. You will work closely with the Associate Manager – Business Finance to support financial planning, P&L management, forecasting, and strategic projects.

You will assist in day-to-day analysis, reporting, data tracking, and stakeholder coordination while gaining exposure to budgeting and business performance analysis across categories and geographies.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of financial concepts and statements.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Knowledge of SQL or data analysis tools adds value.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in P&L management, tracking revenue, costs and profitability across categories and geographies.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and scenario analyses to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Conduct Budget vs Actual analyses and prepare commentary for stakeholders.
  • Analyze pricing, take rates, margins, and other business levers to support commercial decisions.
  • Monitor costs and identify potential revenue leakages or deviations from plan.
  • Contribute to automation of reports, dashboards, and trackers to reduce manual effort.
  • Provide analytical support for ad-hoc projects and stakeholder discussions.
  • Coordinate data gathering with cross-functional teams and ensure timely data availability.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated and analytically strong Business Finance Intern to join our team. The intern will work closely with the Associate Manager – Business Finance and support them across financial planning, P&L management, business analysis, forecasting, and various strategic and operational projects.

This role will provide hands‑on exposure to business finance in a fast‑paced environment. The intern will assist the AM in day‑to‑day analysis, reporting, data tracking, and stakeholder coordination, while also getting opportunities to independently work on specific projects and problem statements.

Key Responsibilities
1. P&L Management and Business Performance
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining business P&Ls.
  • Support in tracking key revenue, cost, and profitability metrics across business categories and geographies.
  • Help identify key trends, deviations, and potential areas for cost or revenue optimisation.
  • Assist in preparing regular business performance reports and dashboards.
2. Forecasting and Financial Planning
  • Support in preparing annual plans, periodic forecasts, and scenario analyses.
  • Track key business and financial drivers and help validate underlying assumptions.
  • Assist in analysing delivery trends, revenue, costs, margins, and other operating metrics to improve forecast accuracy.
3. Budget vs Actual Analysis
  • Assist in monthly Budget vs Actual analysis across key financial metrics.
  • Identify and analyse major variances and support in preparing commentary and insights for stakeholders.
  • Maintain trackers to monitor business performance against targets.
4. Business and Pricing Analysis
  • Support analysis of pricing, take rates, margins, and other key business levers.
  • Conduct data analysis to support pricing and other commercial decisions.
  • Assist in benchmarking and analysing business performance across categories, cities, or other relevant dimensions.
5. Cost Monitoring and Revenue Assurance
  • Monitor key cost heads and identify unusual movements or deviations from planned numbers.
  • Support checks to identify potential revenue leakages or gaps in financial reporting.
  • Assist in building trackers and processes for better cost control and financial visibility.
6. Process Improvement and Automation
  • Assist in improving existing finance and business processes.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of automated reports, dashboards, and trackers.
  • Help streamline recurring analyses and reduce manual effort through better data and reporting processes.
7. Special Projects and Ad-hoc Analysis
  • Provide analytical support for ad-hoc business and finance projects.
  • Work on specific problem statements involving business performance, cost optimisation, revenue growth, or operational efficiency.
  • Support in preparing analyses and presentations for discussions with business and finance stakeholders.
8. Stakeholder Coordination
  • Assist in coordinating with cross‑functional teams to gather data and resolve queries.
  • Support follow‑ups on financial and operational action items.
  • Help ensure timely availability and accuracy of data required for business reviews.
