Job summary

Kitron ASA in Chennai is seeking an experienced Software Architect/Team Lead to guide and grow the software engineering team focused on industrial automation. You will define the architecture, roadmap, and standards for scalable platforms, while delivering modular frameworks and robust integrations with PLCs, robotics, and vision systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electronics, mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8–12 years of software development experience for industrial automation, machine control, robotics, or smart factory apps.
  • Minimum 2 years as Software Architect or Software Team Lead.
  • Strong expertise in C#, .NET/.NET Core, and Python; solid software architecture knowledge.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration, testing, commissioning, production deployment.
  • Experience integrating PC software with PLCs, robots, vision systems, sensors using OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, REST APIs.
  • Experience with backend development, SQL databases, and modern web technologies (React/Angular/Vue).
  • Experience with Azure, Docker, Git, Linux, and CI/CD is preferred.
  • Know-how in Industrial IoT, MES, SCADA, Industry 4.0 is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to support software development, hardware integration, FAT/SAT, commissioning, support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the software engineering team.

  • Develop communication layers using OPC UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, REST APIs, TCP/IP, WebSockets.
  • Lead cloud connectivity, Azure integration, edge computing, and Industrial IoT initiatives.
  • Drive planning, project execution, software documentation, and continuous improvement.

Job Description:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the software engineering team, including software developers, vision engineers, testers, and interns.

  • Define and own the software architecture, technology roadmap, and engineering standards for industrial automation software platforms.

  • Design scalable, modular, and reusable software frameworks that can be adopted across multiple machine platforms.

  • Act as the technical leader by actively participating in software development, code reviews, debugging, hardware integration, machine testing, commissioning, and complex technical problem-solving.

  • Design and develop industrial software applications using C#, .NET, and Python for Industrial PCs and engineering applications.

  • Develop software modules for machine orchestration, recipe management, production data collection, traceability, analytics, operator interfaces, engineering tools, and machine diagnostics.

  • Design backend services, APIs, databases, and software platforms using modern software engineering practices.

  • Collaborate closely with the PLC & Controls team to integrate Industrial PC software with PLCs, motion controllers, robots, vision systems, sensors, barcode readers, and other industrial devices using standard industrial communication protocols.

  • Develop communication layers using OPC UA, Modbus TCP/IP, MQTT, REST APIs, TCP/IP, WebSockets, and other industrial communication technologies.

  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Robotics, and Computer Vision teams to deliver reliable machine automation solutions.

  • Establish software engineering best practices, including software architecture reviews, coding standards, version control, automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment strategies.

  • Support hardware integration, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer technical support from the software perspective.

  • Lead cloud connectivity, Microsoft Azure integration, edge computing, Industrial IoT, and digitalization initiatives where applicable.

  • Drive technical planning, project execution, software documentation, and continuous improvement of the software engineering organization.

Requirements:

  • Experience with backend development, SQL databases, and modern web technologies (React, Angular, or Vue.js).

  • Experience with Azure, Docker, Git, Linux, and CI/CD is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Industrial IoT, MES, SCADA, and Industry 4.0 concepts is an added advantage.

  • Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical leadership and hands-on software development.

  • Willingness to support software development, hardware integration, machine testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and customer technical support.
