Overview

The ICU Nursing Officer will be responsible for providing advanced nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This involves continuous patient monitoring, medication administration, ventilator support coordination, emergency response, documentation, and collaboration with intensivists and healthcare teams. The candidate should have strong critical-care nursing knowledge, quick decision-making ability, infection control awareness, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure clinical situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in ICU and high-dependency areas.
• Monitor vital signs, ECG, oxygen saturation, ventilator parameters, and clinical condition continuously.
• Administer medicines, IV fluids, emergency drugs, blood products, and infusions as prescribed.
• Assist intensivists and doctors during rounds, procedures, emergency care, and critical interventions.
• Maintain accurate ICU charts, medication records, intake-output records, and nursing notes.
• Support ventilator care, oxygen therapy, suctioning, nebulization, and airway management under guidance.
• Identify sudden changes in patient condition and escalate immediately to senior clinical staff.
• Prepare patients for investigations, procedures, transfers, admissions, and discharge from ICU.
• Follow strict infection control, hand hygiene, isolation, PPE, and biomedical waste protocols.
• Coordinate with pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, blood bank, and other departments for urgent care needs.
• Ensure availability and readiness of emergency equipment, monitors, medicines, and ICU supplies.
• Educate patient attendants about care updates as per hospital communication policy.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and emotional support during critical care treatment.
• Participate in code blue, CPR, emergency response, and critical patient stabilization activities.
• Promote ICU safety, clinical discipline, and high standards of critical-care nursing.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with experience in critical care or an equivalent qualification as recognized by the relevant authority.
• Strong knowledge of critical-care nursing, infection control, and high-pressure clinical decision-making.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced ICU and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and patient-family interaction skills.
