Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to update HVDC control and protection systems, run dynamic performance studies, and develop control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink. You will work with PSCAD models, collaborate in agile sprints, and ensure robust verification through MIL and integration testing.

The role requires profound HVDC knowledge, MATLAB/Simulink expertise, and strong collaboration with system engineers and testers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Engineering or Master’s in Electrical, Power Systems, Control Engineering or Power Electronics.
  • Experience in HVDC or FACTS or Renewable control/protection projects.
  • Experience with model-based design for control systems using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Familiarity with EM transient tools (PSCAD, MATLAB).
  • Proficiency with SVN/GitHub and collaboration workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Updating the control & protection system per requirements.
  • Preparing responses to technical queries from clients and solving customer issues.
  • Performing Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies using simulation tools (PSCAD, MATLAB).
  • Controller parameter retuning to meet grid stability criteria.
  • Plant modelling in MATLAB/PSCAD and verification.
  • Design and debug of HVDC converter control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Convert MATLAB/Simulink algorithms to PSCAD models.
  • MIL verification as required.
  • Collaborating in agile sprints; tasks tracked in JIRA.
  • Conducting technical reviews, unit tests, and integration sessions.
  • Managing version control and branching via SVN/GitHub.

Job Description Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Updating the control & Protection system as per the requirements.
  • Accountable for preparing the responses to technical queries from clients and solving customer issues.
  • Able to perform Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies based on aftersales requirements using simulation tools (i.e. PSCAD. MATLAB)
  • Control and protection parameters re-tuning to meet grid stability criteria.
  • Able to do plant modelling in various simulation tools (MATLAB, PSCAD etc) and its verification.
  • Design, develop, model, implement & debug control systems algorithms for HVDC converter functions using MATLAB/Simulink adhering to established functional requirements and internal development standards.
  • Integrate and validate functional blocks based on pre-defined control requirements and interface specifications.
  • Conversion of MATLAB Simulink algorithms to PSCAD models
  • Able to perform model-in-the-loop (MIL) verification according to the project requirement.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, functional designers, and testers in agile sprints, ensuring tasks are tracked and documented in JIRA.
  • Play key role in technical reviews, unit testing, and integration sessions to ensure model quality and maintainability.
  • Manage version control and branching activities through SVN/GitHub Enterprise.
  • Work closely with other engineers to complement existing resources and drive successful execution.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor in Engineering in Electrical / Electronic or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Power Systems, Control Engineering, Power Electronics Engineering.
  • Previous participation in HVDC or FACTS or Renewable control/protection development projects.
  • Familiarity with HVDC control concepts (alpha angle control, DC current regulation, extinction angle, PLL, protection interlocks etc.)
  • Better to have experience with HVDC systems or power electronics control, ideally with LCC/VSC technology.
  • Experience in model-based design for control systems using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with Dynamic Performance Studies using Electromagnetic transient simulation tools (i.e. PSCAD, MATLAB).
  • Proficiency in version control tools (SVN/GitHub) and collaborative workflows (branching, pull requests, merge handling).
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, attention to detail in model implementation.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
