Job summary

Knowbal Group in Hyderabad is seeking an HR Operations Manager to own day-to-day HR operations, payroll, and statutory compliance across India and Australia. This is a solo seat with written-first work, demanding independence and clear written guidance.

You will run end-to-end payroll, maintain compliance across jurisdictions, manage the full employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding, operate the HRMS, and keep performance reviews and learning cycles on schedule.

HR Operations Manager

About the role

We're looking for an HR Operations Manager to own day-to-day HR operations, payroll, and statutory compliance across a distributed team spanning India and Australia.

This is a solo seat. You'll be the person who keeps HR operations running, so we need someone who can take ownership from day one and work independently, not someone who needs close training to get started.

It's also a written-first role by design. You'll be working with thin day-to-day supervision, translating direction into clear, actionable guidance for others in writing rather than through live walkthroughs. If you do your best work in writing rather than in meetings, this role is built for that.

What you'll own

• Payroll management: Running payroll end to end, including maintaining payroll records, applying statutory deductions and compliance, and generating payslips. This is payroll management, not payment processing.
• Statutory compliance: Keeping the firm compliant across more than one jurisdiction and pay-cycle regime, and making sure employee records and personal data are handled appropriately.
• Employee lifecycle: Owning the employee journey from final selection onward: offer issuance, compensation discussions, onboarding, employee records, and offboarding. Resolving employee conflicts and compliance-adjacent people issues.
• HR systems: Day-to-day operation of our HRMS platform as the system of record for HR and payroll.
• Process cadence: Keeping the performance review and learning cycles running on schedule, tracking deadlines and following up so they get completed. You manage the process, not the content of individual reviews or training design.

What this role doesn't own

• Strategic HR direction and firm-wide people policy sit above this seat.
• Candidate sourcing, screening, and interviewing through to shortlist stay with our Talent Acquisition function.
• Performance management for individual teams stays with local leads and branch directors.

What we're looking for

• Hands-on payroll management experience: payroll records, statutory compliance, and payslip generation.
• Experience handling statutory HR compliance.
• Experience managing the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding.
• Hands-on experience using an HRMS platform in a live HR operations role.
• Experience working across several HR functions in a structured environment, not only a single specialism.
• Comfort working independently in a distributed, written-first team.

Good to have

• Experience configuring an HRMS (workflows, fields, approval rules). We can support you in learning this on the job.
• Exposure to running a structured performance review cycle.
• Exposure to coordinating learning and development programmes.Experience with payroll or compliance in more than one country, especially Australia.
