Job summary

Michael Page is partnering with a Financial Services client in Mumbai to recruit an experienced payroll lead. This role covers end-to-end payroll tax, statutory reporting, equity compensation, governance, and process automation.

You will steer a team, ensure compliance across India and potentially regional payrolls, and collaborate with finance and HR across diverse stakeholders. The successful candidate will have 8–10 years in payroll operations with leadership exposure and strong India payroll

Qualifications

• 8–10 years progressive experience in payroll operations or related discipline.
• Leadership or managerial experience (2–3 years) in payroll.
• Strong hands-on India payroll and statutory reporting expertise, with regional exposure desirable.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payroll tax and statutory reporting calendar for supported jurisdictions.
• Lead equity compensation administration across multiple jurisdictions.
• Design and operate a payroll governance framework with controls and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Payroll Tax & Statutory Reporting: Own the end-to-end payroll tax and statutory reporting calendar for supported jurisdictions, ensuring accurate calculation, validation, reconciliation, approval, payment and submission within prescribed deadlines.
• Equity Compensation Administration: Lead the payroll administration of equity compensation events across multiple jurisdictions, including vesting, exercise, settlement, withholding, sell-to-cover and related payroll reporting activities, as applicable.
• Governance, Controls & Risk Management: Design, operate and evidence a robust payroll control framework covering tax, statutory reporting, equity transactions, reconciliations, approvals, segregation of duties and issue management.
• Process Improvement, Technology & Leadership: Identify and deliver process simplification, standardisation and automation opportunities across payroll tax, statutory reporting, reconciliations and equity administration.

The Successful Applicant

We're looking for someone who has:

• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in payroll operations, payroll tax, statutory reporting, equity compensation administration or a closely related discipline, including at least 2-3 years in a lead, supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Strong hands-on experience with India payroll and statutory reporting is essential; experience supporting Europe and/or Middle East payrolls is highly desirable
