The Oregon Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Maintenance Specialist (Split Position) to maintain roadways, operate light and heavy equipment, and support traffic control in Salem and Detroit.
This split role runs May–Oct with the Salem striping crew and Nov–Apr with the Detroit maintenance crew. A CDL-A with tanker endorsement and a valid license are required or obtainable within 60 days; travel and irregular hours including emergencies may be needed.

As part of our team, you will operate equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures. In this split position, you will work with the traveling Region 2 striping crew from approximately May 1 through October 31 and the Detroit maintenance crew from November 1 through April 30. You will also help with emergency cleanup and traffic control after incidents, storms, spills and more! This split position will be based out of the Salem striping station and will also work out of the Detroit maintenance station for 6 months each year. Eligibility for mileage reimbursements is dependent on the number of miles traveled from the reporting locations. Salary range: $4,312 - $5,988.

Experience in road maintenance, construction or in a maintenance training program such as ODOT High School to Highway program, ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program, Job Corps, etc. A current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) is preferred. Winter maintenance experience such as sanding, deicing or using snow blowers or snowplows. Experience performing pavement marking and legend work. Experience using hand tools and operating light and heavy equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders or dump trucks.
