Job description

Role Overview

Owns the day to day running of the India office: talent acquisition, HR and people operations, facilities, vendor management, and full compliance with India's regulatory requirements. This is the person on the ground ensuring the team has what it needs to thrive, and that the company never faces a compliance surprise. Works closely with company leadership on hiring plans, budget, and overall strategy for the India office; with functional team leads on people and day to day operational support, while functional direction and quality ownership for each discipline remains with leadership; and with external partners such as legal/compliance advisors, recruiters, and facilities providers to keep operations running smoothly. This role matters because it enables the company to build a high performing India team without every people decision or compliance deadline routing back to headquarters. As the most senior India based hire, this person sets the cultural tone for the office from day one, and plays a central role in ensuring strong retention, morale, and regulatory compliance as the team scales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and scale oCommerce's India Delivery Center, ensuring operational excellence across all functions.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing leadership team and foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Own end-to-end delivery across Web Development, Creative Production, Digital Marketing, eCommerce Operations, Finance, HR, and Administration.
  • Translate business priorities from the US leadership team into clear execution plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive hiring strategy, workforce planning, and organizational growth to support business expansion.
  • Establish and optimize operating processes, SOPs, KPIs, dashboards, and governance mechanisms to improve productivity and quality.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Manage resource planning, workload balancing, and cross-functional collaboration across teams.
  • Oversee office administration, facilities, vendor management, procurement, and business continuity for the India office.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labour laws, statutory requirements, payroll, and corporate policies in coordination with external advisors.
  • Manage the India operations budget and drive cost-effective, scalable operations.
  • Develop future leaders through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Serve as the primary operational partner for the Founder and Chief of Staff, providing regular business updates, insights, and recommendations.
  • Identify operational risks, resolve escalations, and drive continuous process improvements across the organization.
  • Champion employee engagement, learning, and a high-performance culture aligned with oCommerce's values and long-term vision.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Management, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Operations, Delivery, or General Management.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling cross-functional teams in a digital agency, eCommerce, SaaS, or technology services environment.
  • Strong leadership, people management, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent operational, project, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience in hiring, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Good understanding of HR, administration, and statutory compliance in India.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with global teams.
  • High ownership, accountability, and a hands-on, execution-focused mindset.
What we're looking for
  • Takes ownership and consistently delivers results with minimal supervision.
  • Enjoys building teams, processes, and organizations from the ground up.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and high-growth environment.
  • Leads by example with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.
  • Makes data-driven decisions while balancing speed and quality.
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates seamlessly across global teams.
