Job description

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead and scale our technology organization. The role will own the engineering function end-to-end, including technology strategy, architecture, engineering execution, product delivery, engineering talent, and team building. The ideal candidate will be a strong technology and product engineering leader who has built and scaled high-performing engineering teams and has worked closely with product, business, and senior leadership to translate business requirements into scalable technology solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who can operate at both the strategic and execution levels.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Engineering Leadership:

• Own the overall engineering organization and engineering roadmap.
• Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams.
• Establish engineering processes, development practices, and quality standards.
• Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Define organizational structure, hiring plans, and technical leadership requirements.

Technology and Architecture:

• Own the technology architecture and evolution of the platform.
• Ensure systems are scalable, secure, reliable, and highly performant.
• Make key decisions around technology stack, architecture, infrastructure, and engineering practices.
• Identify and address technical debt while balancing speed of execution with long-term scalability.
• Establish appropriate engineering standards around coding, testing, deployment, and documentation.

Product Engineering:

• Partner closely with product leadership to translate product strategy into technology execution.
• Work with product managers to prioritize engineering initiatives and manage trade-offs.
• Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of product features.
• Bring a strong product mindset to engineering decisions, with a focus on customer and business outcomes.
• Participate in product and roadmap discussions at a senior leadership level.

Execution and Delivery:

• Own engineering delivery across multiple products/platforms/teams.
• Establish predictable development and release processes.
• Track engineering metrics, delivery timelines, quality, and productivity.
• Identify execution bottlenecks and drive resolution.
• Ensure engineering teams can move rapidly without compromising reliability or quality.

Cross-functional Leadership:

• Work closely with product, design, business, operations, and other leadership teams.
• Act as the technology partner to business leadership.
• Communicate complex technical issues and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Participate in strategic planning and business decision-making.

Team Building and Talent:

• Build a strong engineering leadership layer.
• Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality engineering talent.
• Create career paths and development frameworks for engineering teams.
• Coach engineering managers and senior engineers.
• Build a culture of technical excellence and ownership.

Requirements:

• 12+ years of experience in software/product engineering, with significant experience leading engineering teams.
• Experience as Head of Engineering / VP of Engineering / Engineering Director / CTO / Senior Engineering Leader in a product-led technology organization.
• Strong experience building and scaling engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience taking products from concept through development, launch, and scale.
• Strong experience working closely with product teams and owning product engineering outcomes.
• Ability to balance technology quality, product priorities, business requirements, and speed of execution.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.Strong people leadership and organizational development experience.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in a high-growth startup / scale-up environment.
• Experience managing multiple engineering teams through engineering managers/tech leads.
• Experience working in a product company rather than primarily an IT services environment.
• Experience with AI/ML, data platforms, SaaS, or other technology-intensive products would be an advantage.
• Prior experience owning both engineering and significant product/technology responsibilities would be a strong plus.
