Job summary

Jubilant Ingrevia Limited is hiring a Group Leader- Chemical Research to lead development and optimization of flow chemistry processes at our Gajraula site. The role emphasizes scale-up, process development, and safe operation within a CDMO/ pharmaceutical context.

The candidate should hold an MSc/PhD in Organic Chemistry or MTech/BTech in Chemical Engineering with 12+ years of hands-on flow chemistry experience, and familiarity with pilot-to-commercial scale challenges.

Qualifications

• MSc / PhD in Organic Chemistry or M.Tech / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering.
• 12+ years of hands-on experience in flow chemistry, process development, or continuous manufacturing.
• Experience in CDMO / pharma / specialty chemical / semiconductor chemical R&D preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop flow chemistry processes for new and existing reactions.
• Scale lab flow processes to pilot and commercial scale with PFDs and P&IDs.
• Ensure inherent safety and compliance through risk assessments (HAZOP, HIRA, DSC).
• Conduct kinetic studies, reaction modeling, and process simulations.
• Present progress to internal teams and external customers.

The Position

Key Responsibilities

• Synthetic Chemistry & Flow Process Development:
• Develop continuous flow processes for new and existing chemical reactions (photochemical, high-temperature, high-pressure, hazardous chemistry, gas–liquid, liquid–liquid, and multiphase systems).
• Screen reaction conditions (residence time, stoichiometry, mixing efficiency, heat transfer, pressure control).
• Optimize flow parameters using micro reactors, microfluidic reactors, packed bed reactors, tubular reactors, and coil reactors.
• Scale-Up & Commercialization:
• Convert lab-scale flow processes to pilot and commercial scale.
• Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, mass balance, and equipment specifications for scale-up.
• Support pilot plant trials and ensure smooth transfer to manufacturing sites.
• Equipment & Setup Design
• Design experimental flow setups including pumps, back-pressure regulators, static mixers, heat exchangers, photo-reactors, and structured packed columns.
• Select appropriate materials of construction (SS316, Hastelloy, PTFE, PFA, quartz, etc.) based on reaction conditions.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues (pumping, clogging, temperature control, dosing accuracy).
• Safety & Compliance
• Ensure inherent safety through flow process intensification for exothermic, toxic, or hazardous reactions (chlorination, nitration, oxidation, phosphonation, etc.).
• Implement risk assessments: HAZOP, HIRA, thermal screening (DSC, ARC).
• Maintain compliance with safety SOPs, ELN documentation, and 5S practices.
• Data Analysis & Reporting
• Conduct kinetic studies, reaction modelling, and process simulations.
• Prepare technical reports, SOPs, batch records, and scale-up documents.
• Present progress to internal technical teams and external customers.

Qualifications & Experience

• M.Sc / Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry / Chemical Sciences or M.Tech / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering
• 12+ years of hands‑on experience in flow chemistry, process development, or continuous manufacturing.
• Experience in CDMO / pharma / specialty chemical / semiconductor chemical R&D preferred.
