Job summary

Believe is seeking a Mumbai-based GL Accountant to support general ledger accounting and financial closing for French entities, partnering with the France accounting team to ensure precise records and timely reporting.

You will maintain GL accounts, post entries, perform reconciliations, and assist month-end and year-end closings, while coordinating intercompany balances and aiding audits. Opportunities exist to streamline processes and strengthen controls.

Qualifications

• Requires 5–8 years of experience in GL accounting and closing processes.
• Experience in intercompany reconciliations and coordinating with cross-border teams.
• Strong understanding of accounting policies and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger accounts with proper documentation.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and prepayments.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Carry out month-end and year-end closing activities within deadlines.
• Reconcile intercompany balances and coordinate with relevant teams to resolve differences.
• Review account movements and provide explanations for variances.
• Support audits with reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Document accounting procedures and promote process improvements.

Job Description

Based in Mumbai, the GL Accountant will support the general ledger accounting and financial closing activities of French entities, working closely with the France accounting team to ensure accurate accounting records and timely reporting.

• Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other closing adjustments.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and follow up on outstanding items.
• Carry out month‑end and year‑end closing activities within agreed deadlines.
• Maintain fixed asset records and prepare related accounting entries.
• Reconcile intercompany balances and coordinate with the relevant teams to resolve differences.
• Review account movements and provide explanations for significant variances.
• Prepare reporting schedules and supporting documentation for the France accounting team.
• Support internal and external audits by providing requested reconciliations and documentation.
• Apply accounting policies and internal controls, escalating issues when necessary.
• Document accounting procedures and support knowledge transfer between the France and Mumbai teams.
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen controls and automate recurring tasks.

Experience Range: 5 - 8 years

Qualifications

Master's or Bachelor's in Finance or similar field
