Mployee.me is seeking a hands-on GIS Engineer to support a large Indian Defence programme, focusing on geospatial systems, operational mapping, and mission-critical GIS applications. The role requires strong expertise in GIS engineering, spatial databases, data processing, remote sensing, and analytics.

The candidate will design and optimise workflows, work with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Python geospatial libraries, and integrate GIS services with defence systems and web apps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geoinformatics, Geomatics, GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography, Computer Science, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain GIS solutions for Defence and strategic applications.
• Process and analyse large volumes of vector, raster, satellite and terrain data.
• Develop and optimise spatial databases using PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
• Build automated geospatial workflows using Python and geospatial libraries.
• Perform spatial, terrain, proximity, network and geospatial analysis.
• Develop operational, thematic and intelligence maps.
• Implement and integrate WMS, WFS, WMTS and REST-based GIS services.
• Integrate GIS platforms with web applications, APIs and Defence systems.
• Optimise spatial queries, indexing and large-scale geospatial data processing.
• Validate geospatial data accuracy, quality and consistency.
• Work closely with software, AI/ML, database and data engineering teams.

GIS Engineer – Defence & Geospatial Intelligence

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced GIS Engineer to support a large-scale Indian Defence programme involving advanced geospatial systems, operational mapping, spatial intelligence and mission-critical GIS applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in GIS engineering, spatial databases, geospatial data processing, remote sensing and spatial analytics, with the ability to work with large and complex geospatial datasets.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain GIS solutions for Defence and strategic applications.

Domain Expertise

Strong understanding of:

• Coordinate Reference Systems and map projections
• Geodetic and datum transformations
• Remote sensing and satellite imagery
• Terrain and elevation analysis
• Spatial modelling and geoprocessing
• Geospatial data quality and accuracy
• Operational and intelligence mapping
• Common Operational Picture (COP)
• Large-scale geospatial data management

Defence Experience

Experience working on Defence, Aerospace, ISR, C4ISR, Border Security, Maritime Security, Intelligence or Government GIS programmes is highly desirable.

Knowledge of Defence geospatial intelligence, military mapping, tactical/strategic mapping, asset tracking and operational visualisation will be an advantage.

Additional Skills

Experience with CesiumJS, OpenLayers, Leaflet, MapLibre, Docker, Linux, REST APIs, FastAPI, satellite imagery processing, 3D GIS or AI/ML-based geospatial analytics will be advantageous.
