Project Engineering:
  • Lead electrical engineering for 5, 000 A to 10, 000 A static excitation systems from specification review to FAT, commissioning, and handover.
  • Review customer specifications, generator data, field forcing requirements, protection philosophy, grid code expectations, and project scope to define a compliant solution.
  • Size and select excitation transformer, rectifier bridge, thyristors or diodes, fuses, breakers, disconnectors, DC bus bars, field flashing, de-excitation, crowbar protection, cooling system, controllers, I/O, and auxiliary supplies.
  • Develop and review schematics, single line diagrams, three line diagrams, wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, cabinet layouts, BOMs, cable schedules, terminal plans, and system architecture documents.
  • Engineer high current bus work considering current density, temperature rise, short circuit withstand, creepage, clearance, insulation coordination, ventilation, accessibility, and manufacturability.
  • Define and validate AVR/FCR functions, voltage and reactive power control, limiters, protection logic, redundancy changeover, trip interfaces, alarms, and DCS/SCADA interfaces.
  • Implement or review control logic based on SAMA diagrams, functional descriptions, approved narratives, and generator operating requirements.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables, test procedures, compliance statements, deviation lists, risk registers, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting guides, and customer documentation.
  • Coordinate with project management, manufacturing, quality, procurement, suppliers, panel builders, software engineers, field service teams, and customers to maintain design, material, and schedule readiness.
  • Support manufacturing and quality checks covering assembly, wiring, bus bar installation, torque verification, clearance verification, cooling arrangement, FAT readiness, and nonconformance closure.
  • Configure and integrate communication interfaces such as Modbus, OPC, IEC 61850, DNP3, Ethernet networks, and plant automation interfaces.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IEEE, IEC, NEC, ISO, HSE, cybersecurity, customer, and regional grid code requirements.
Field Services:
  • Prepare site execution and commissioning plans in coordination with project managers, engineering teams, customers, and installation contractors.
  • Lead site teams during excitation system installation, panel power-up, redundancy checks, I/O verification, loop checks, device checks, and system energization.
  • Perform and support commissioning of high-current excitation systems, including AVR/FCR control checks, limiters, protection functions, interface testing, and generator performance validation.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to excitation controllers, power bridges, firing circuits, field flashing, cooling systems, communication interfaces, protection devices, and auxiliary systems.
  • Review and resolve installation or wiring deviations, site constraints, and commissioning punch points while maintaining safety and quality requirements.
  • Modify logic, graphics, databases, parameters, and test configurations as required to meet approved customer and site requirements.
  • Prepare customer-facing commissioning reports, test records, issue logs, and handover documentation, and coordinate with vendors and stakeholders for timely closure.
