Job description

We are seeking a seasoned Frontend Lead with deep Shopify platform expertise to spearhead our eCommerce storefront strategy across our multi-brand portfolio. In this role, you will own the end-to-end frontend architecture on Shopify Plus, lead a team of developers, and set the technical direction for building high-performance, scalable digital commerce experiences. You will work closely with eCommerce, merchandising, marketing, and operations leadership to translate business objectives into exceptional customer-facing solutions that drive conversion, revenue, and brand equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Management Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3-4 frontend and Shopify developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning. Drive agile ceremonies - sprint planning, standups, retrospectives - and ensure predictable, high-quality delivery. Establish and enforce coding standards, PR review processes, and documentation practices across the team. Serve as a technical escalation point, unblocking engineers on complex architecture and integration challenges.
  • Shopify Platform Architecture & Development Architect and oversee the development of Shopify Plus storefronts across multiple brands, optimizing for performance, scalability, and UX best practices. Lead the design and implementation of Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+), including custom sections and dynamic content blocks. Drive adoption of headless/composable commerce approaches where applicable, leveraging Shopify Storefront API with React.js / Next.js / TypeScript frontends. Build and govern custom Shopify Apps using Node.js to extend platform capabilities across the brand portfolio. Evaluate and guide technology selection for frontend tooling, frameworks, and third-party integrations.
  • Shopify APIs, GraphQL & Integrations Lead development of robust integrations using Shopify Admin API (REST and GraphQL) for catalog, orders, customers, inventory, and fulfillment operations. Architect Shopify Webhook-based event-driven integration patterns for real-time data flows with downstream systems. Design and manage product data pipelines between ERP/OMS and Shopify, including automated catalog, pricing, and inventory feeds in CSV, XML, and JSON formats. Ensure API integrations adhere to rate limiting, versioning, and error handling best practices.
  • Order Management & POS Own the technical integration between Shopify and Order Management Systems (OMS) — including order lifecycle workflows, fulfillment routing, returns, and exchanges. Lead implementation and optimization of Shopify POS across physical retail touchpoints, ensuring unified commerce across online and in-store channels. Collaborate with operations teams to support click-and-collect, ship-from-store, and inventory visibility features. Manage checkout customization using Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensions, and Checkout Scripts for promotions, discounts, and custom logic.
  • Payments & Checkout Oversee configuration and optimization of Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, and third-party payment gateway integrations. Ensure PCI-DSS compliance and security best practices across all payment workflows and checkout touchpoints. Lead integration with Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) providers and gifting/loyalty platforms as needed.
  • Analytics, SEO & Tag Management Own the implementation and governance of Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and multi-channel conversion tracking. Enforce technical SEO standards including structured data (JSON-LD), canonical tags, page speed optimization, and Core Web Vitals. Design and maintain GTM data layers, custom triggers, and attribution models in collaboration with the marketing analytics team.
  • Performance, Quality & DevOps Champion web performance engineering — Core Web Vitals, CDN configuration, image optimization, lazy loading, and caching strategies. Define and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Shopify theme and app deployments using Shopify CLI and GitHub Actions. Oversee QA processes for frontend — writing test plans, coordinating with QA engineers, and enforcing regression testing coverage. Monitor frontend reliability using APM/observability tools; drive RCA and remediation for production incidents.
  • Marketing & Social Commerce Integrations Lead technical integrations with email and SMS marketing platforms including Listrak, Klaviyo, and similar tools. Oversee social commerce integrations: TikTok Shop, Instagram Shopping, Facebook Catalog, and Pinterest Catalogs. Integrate and maintain tax automation platforms (e.g., Avalara, TaxJar, Vertex) with Shopify.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience 8+ years of hands-on frontend development experience with at least 5 years specializing in Shopify / Shopify Plus.
  • Proven experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a direct or tech-lead capacity.
  • Deep eCommerce domain expertise: order lifecycle, promotions, catalog management, checkout flows, customer accounts, and fulfillment.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering complex Shopify projects end-to-end in a multi-brand or enterprise environment.
  • Experience working in an agile / scrum delivery model with cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in Liquid templating, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+). Strong hands-on experience with React.js, Next.js, and TypeScript for headless / composable Shopify builds.
  • Deep expertise with Shopify APIs: Admin REST API, GraphQL Admin API, Storefront API, and Webhooks.
  • Hands-on experience with Shopify POS configuration, integrations, and unified commerce workflows.
  • Solid experience with OMS integration patterns — order creation, fulfillment, returns, and inventory sync via Shopify APIs.
  • Experience with Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensions, and Checkout Scripts for custom checkout logic.
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and technical SEO fundamentals.
  • Experience with social commerce integrations: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and cloud hosting (AWS / GCP / Azure).
  • Strong command of web performance optimization including Core Web Vitals and CDN configuration.
  • Understanding of eCommerce security, PCI-DSS compliance, and GDPR / privacy requirements.
  • Proficiency with version control (Git), code review practices, and branching strategies.
  • Nice to Have: Experience with headless commerce frameworks (Hydrogen, Remix, or custom React SSR/SSG).
  • Experience with OMS platforms such as Manhattan Associates, Fluent Commerce, IBM Sterling, or Salesforce OMS.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing tools (Optimizely, VWO) and conversion rate optimization (CRO) strategies.
  • Shopify Partner Certification or Shopify Plus Certification.
  • Experience with Boomi, MuleSoft, or similar middleware/integration platforms for ERP connectivity.
  • Background in luxury retail or multi-brand eCommerce portfolio management.
