Job summary

Farmioc is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to collaborate with traders, agribusinesses, exporters, and producers in Chennai. You will translate business problems into practical data-driven solutions using Farmioc's datasets and MarketHub integrations.

You will build production-grade data pipelines, dashboards, and AI-enabled analytics, working closely with stakeholders to deploy solutions that support price risk, supply outlooks, and trade-flow analysis.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with commodity traders, agribusinesses, exporters, importers, and poultry, dairy, and livestock producers that manage agricultural commodity positions, sourcing, storage, or price risk.

You will understand customer workflows and data, build practical solutions using Farmioc's agricultural, commodity, and market intelligence, and take those solutions from problem discovery through implementation and production.

What You'll Do

Customer & Solution Discovery

• Work with trading, risk, commercial, data, and technology stakeholders to understand customer workflows, positions, transactions, and technical requirements.

• Translate business problems into concrete solutions such as price alerts, position monitoring, supply outlooks, trade-flow analysis, and price-risk analysis.

Engineering & Data

• Build customer-facing solutions using Python, SQL, databases, REST services, and data-processing workflows.

• Integrate customer data with Farmioc datasets covering commodity prices and price outlooks; yield, area, production, and stock forecasts; weather; supply and demand; and trade flows.

• Map customer commodities, grades, positions, transactions, storage locations, and trading regions to relevant Farmioc commodity, market, and production data.

• Develop data pipelines, analytical workflows, dashboards, scripts, and application components, including integrations with MarketHub where relevant.

• Prototype, validate, and take successful solutions into production.

Analytics & AI

• Develop price, supply, and demand signals using Farmioc yield, production, and stock forecasts alongside customer positions and transactions.

• Apply LLMs, RAG, or AI agents where they provide clear business value, such as daily market briefings for trading desks.

• Validate data, analytical results, and AI outputs before they are used in customer workflows.

Deployment & Support

• Work with customer technology and security teams to test, deploy, and validate solutions.

• Troubleshoot and resolve application, data, database, integration, and performance issues.

• Document integrations, workflows, technical decisions, and operational requirements.

Product & Engineering Collaboration

• Identify recurring customer requirements that can become reusable Farmioc product capabilities.

• Evaluate whether requirements should be addressed through existing Farmioc capabilities, customer-specific solutions, or product enhancements.

• Share customer feedback and implementation learnings with product and engineering teams.

What We're Looking For

• 3–5 years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, implementation engineering, data engineering, AI engineering, or a related field.

• Strong Python and SQL skills with experience working with databases and data-processing workflows.

• Experience building and deploying production applications, data solutions, or analytical systems.

• Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and work directly with stakeholders.

• Solid debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements, changing priorities, and customer-driven problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commodity traders, agribusinesses, exporters, importers, or poultry, dairy, and livestock businesses.

• Understanding of APMC mandis, NCDEX or MCX agri futures, commodity hedging, warehouse-based trading, origination, or agricultural supply chains.

• Experience working with agricultural, commodity, trade, market, or economic datasets.

• Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, trading or ERP systems, batch/file-based integrations, APIs, data governance, or customer security requirements.

• Experience with PostgreSQL or MongoDB, dashboards, LLMs/RAG, AI agents, Docker, cloud, or CI/CD.

Example Customer Problems

• Combine a trader's open positions with PriceHub spot prices and forecasts to flag buy, sell, or hold signals.

• Monitor feed-cost exposure for a poultry or dairy producer using Farmioc yield and price forecasts for maize and soybean.

• Compare the current season against similar past years across weather, supply, and prices to support trading and storage decisions.
