Job summary

Petrocon Engineers and Consultants (PEC) seeks a Design Engineer for Fire & Life Safety (FLS) to develop and review fire protection and life safety system designs for industrial and building projects, ensuring code compliance and coordination with other disciplines from concept through detailed engineering.

You will prepare drawings, calculations, BOQs, and specifications for fire protection equipment, support tendering and site queries, and ensure compliance with NFPA and local standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection and life safety design experience on industrial or building projects.
• Experience with EPC/consultancy environments is preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA codes and local civil defense standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review fire protection and life safety system designs, calculations, and specifications for industrial and building projects.
• Develop design basis reports, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, and system schematics for fire fighting, sprinkler, fire pump, and fire detection & alarm systems.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure integrated, clash-free design development and code-compliant egress/life safety layouts.
• Review and guide drafting/BIM teams to ensure drawings accurately reflect the design intent.
• Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, and datasheets for fire protection equipment and materials.
• Support tendering, vendor evaluation, and technical bid review for FLS packages.
• Provide technical support during construction, including RFI responses and site query resolution.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable fire codes, NFPA/local civil defense standards, and client/project specifications.

Location: Design Office (with periodic site visits as required)

Job Summary

The Design Engineer (FLS) will develop and review fire protection and life safety system designs for industrial and building projects, ensuring designs are technically sound, code-compliant, and coordinated with other disciplines from concept through detailed engineering.

• Professional certification/membership (e.g., NFPA, relevant engineering council registration) is an advantage.

Experience

10+ years of fire protection and life safety design experience on industrial or building projects, with EPC/consultancy background preferred.

Key Skills

• Strong knowledge of fire protection design codes and standards (NFPA, local civil defense codes as applicable).
• Proficiency in hydraulic calculation software (e.g., Hydratec, Elite Fire) and Revit MEP coordination.
• Ability to prepare detailed design documentation, specifications, and BOQs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills for multi-discipline design coordination.
