Job summary

Cleantech Industry Resources is seeking a highly motivated Financial Analyst to join our development team. The role focuses on advanced financial modelling for renewable energy projects, ensuring robust assessments from land origination to project finance within the North American context.

You will build and review models, run scenario analyses, and prepare investment memos for developers, investors, and lenders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
  • Experience in financial modelling, forecasting and reporting.
  • Renewable energy project financing knowledge is a plus.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Analyst to join our development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial modelling, analysis, and reporting, with specific experience in the renewable energy sector. This role requires a deep understanding of financial principles and the ability to apply them in the context of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and other sustainable initiatives.

  • Develop, maintain, and review sophisticated project finance models for renewable energy and infrastructure projects, including Utility-Scale Solar, BESS, Solar+BESS, Wind, Green Hydrogen, EV Charging Infrastructure, Data Centers, and other emerging technologies across the North American market.
  • Build dynamic financial models incorporating project revenues, operating expenses, tax incentives, depreciation, financing structures, and investment returns.
  • Perform scenario, sensitivity, and Monte Carlo analyses to evaluate project risks, investment returns, and key value drivers.
  • Assess project economics using financial metrics including NPV, IRR, LCOE, DSCR, Equity IRR, Project IRR, Payback Period, and Cash Flow Analysis.
  • Support the development of merchant, hybrid, tolling, capacity market, ancillary service, and revenue stacking models for renewable energy and energy storage projects.
  • Perform financial due diligence for acquisitions, project financing, M&A transactions, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities.
  • Review project assumptions, commercial agreements, CAPEX/OPEX estimates, revenue forecasts, tax incentives, and financing structures to identify financial risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare investment memorandums, lender presentations, and executive summaries for developers, investors, lenders, and senior leadership.
  • Evaluate project bankability and commercial viability throughout different stages of project development.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, providing variance analysis and actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop accurate cost estimates and financial forecasts.
  • Perform detailed financial due diligence on potential renewable energy investments.
  • Prepare investment memos and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the financial viability of new projects, partnerships, and acquisitions.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, tax laws, and company policies.
  • Support external audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Monitor North American electricity markets, renewable energy policies, tax incentives, ISO/RTO market developments, and emerging revenue opportunities.
  • Analyze the financial impact of market trends, merchant pricing, REC markets, ancillary services, capacity markets, inflation, interest rates, and regulatory changes.
  • Evaluate the commercial implications of incentive programs such as ITC, PTC, IRA, MACRS, LCFS, VDER, SGIP, and other applicable federal and state-level programs.
  • Work directly with renewable energy developers, IPPs, infrastructure investors, private equity firms, lenders, utilities, and independent engineers to deliver high quality financial consulting services.
  • Translate complex financial analyses into clear, actionable recommendations tailored to client objectives and investment strategies.
  • Present financial models, investment analyses, and commercial recommendations during client meetings, technical discussions, and management reviews.
  • Support proposal preparation, commercial discussions, and scope development for financial advisory engagements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and project management.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to project managers and business development teams.
  • Participate in strategic planning and business development initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CFA is a plus.

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, preferably in Renewable Energy Sector. (Consultancy and Analyst experience is highly preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, AT tools, financial software).
  • Knowledge of renewable energy project financing, including PPAs, tax credits, and subsidies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations, incentives, and market dynamics.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting software is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion.
  • Technical understanding of clean energy business processes
  • Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
  • Excellence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
