Job Purpose

To plan, direct, monitor and control all engineering activities and facilitate unit in achieving all business objectives related to safety, quality, cost and productivity. To standardize system, upgrade equipment, improve Process, People technical competency and skills, collaborate with various functions within unit and central team. To conceptualize, design, plan and analyze budget for existing and future capex projects. To do this by following all Statutory and related Compliances.

Job Context: The global Aluminium market is valued at USD 87.84 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow 7.5 % (CAGR) from 2022 to 2030. Increase in demand for lightweight and durable extruded products is driving the growth. Top aluminum extruders are investing and creating tough competition.
This plant is first of its kind, across the globe to have mill finish, anodized, powder coated, fabricated products manufactured under one roof. The profiles developed and manufactured are highly complex in nature, having critical die design, challenging operations, involve highly skilled technicians, special machinery and processes. This unit has two 8-inch press with a capacity of 16KT per annum, anodizing 2.5 KT per annum, powder coating 3.2KT per annum along with various fabrication machinery like manual and robotic welding, CNC cutting & machining centers, Flaring & collaring, assembly lines serving for Building & construction (38%) , industrial (41%), Exports (11%), Automotive (7%), and solar segments (3%).
This unit is increasing its business in automated warehouse system, premium anodizing finish products (exports). Solar energy and automotive (domestic) segments by increasing utilization of existing facility with additional shifts, setting up new fabrication facility, additional anodizing tanks and a brand-new extrusion press.
Job Challenges: The job demands extensive planning and detailed work scheduling of contracts, close coordination between all contractors, detailed engineering consultants, on site management at Kuppam, absorption of Technology monitoring & control of project costs, and ensure compliance to budget. Management of Safety will be a top most priority during the construction phase, with large contract workforce.
This job demands in-depth understanding of all critical operating requirements and to lead a highly technical competent team in Engineering and Projects involving selection of right skills and developing right mindset for managing engineering activities of a world class Aluminium extrusion and value add Centre. This requires formation of core engineering team with internal and external recruitment for upcoming expansions. A cohesive high performing and delivery focused team would be crucial success factor.
As Engineering head must have desired sensitivity to anticipate the different risk plant could face & to prepare risk mitigation strategy. The job demands an understanding of the Statutory needs.

KRA1 Standardize Engineering system & practices Develop and continuously update engineering management framework.
Audit engineering function and identify gaps and develop opportunities.
Support unit in best practices adoption.
Facilitate horizontal replication of best practices.
Monitoring engineering planning functions across unit and mentoring engineering planners.
Keep track of digital initiatives and enable horizontal deployment based on performance.

KRA2 Incorporate world class engineering activities
1. Drive and institutionalize RCM (Reliability centered Maintenance) as a concept and roll down across unit.
2. MIS & reporting
3. Major plant shutdown – institute proper planning and scheduling so that time and costs are adhered to as well as completion of scheduled tasks. Embedding reliability culture through training and mentioning of engineering workforce.
Facilitating and reviewing the reliability improvement projects.
Driving specific reliability improvement projects for engineering department.

Develop KRA dashboard for monitoring plant engineering
Issue guidelines for KRA calculation and reporting.
Analyze major shutdown during year on key parameters of time, cost, rework and activity compliance.

KRA3 Cost Management :
1. Maintain various operational costs at P&B levels through efforts to control and improve fuel oil, power, consumables and raw materials efficiencies.
2. Plan, recommend and control the engineering budget. Review the operating parameters & Practices of Departments to ensure efficiencies are as per plan. Coordinate interaction between engineering, production planning and Departments to achieve targeted efficiencies.
Review of inventory levels of spare parts materials by coordinating with materials function.
Prepare & finalize budget for operating supplies and contractor manpower.
Approve, monitor, and control each consumption as per budget. Review actual expenses monthly against planned.

KRA4 Manpower Development :
1. Select, Train, Develop and Motivate all employees to provide continuous availability to competent and motivated workforce to meet current and future challenges
2. Maintain harmonious industrial relations for a congenial & productive working environment by formulating & ensuring implementation of proper IR processes along with HR function. Develop training plan in line with the objective of meeting the requirements of the extrusion Business Scenario and create a platform for conductive work culture.
Finalise a performance objective for employees and review the same.
Conduct Performance Appraisal & Provide feedback to subordinates.
Identify Potential Employees and mentor them to develop succession line.
Recognise good performances and motivate department and operating teams.
Communicate about the vision of the unit and prepare employees for change through suitable initiatives.
Identification of training needs, recommendation of training for engineers, supervisors and workmen.
Interact and actively provide support to HR function in manpower planning and IR issues.
Handling of grievances and Disciplinary Cases.

KRA5 SAFETY:
Direct, Monitor and Ensure implementation of all safety procedures to ensure accident-free working environment and compliance of factory and environment related requirements. Guide Departments to identify aspects and impacts and risks and hazard related to all process in the plant.
Plan & review of environment management programs.
Monitor safety procedures laid out are strictly followed by the operating teams.
Analyse accidents if any and direct preventive and corrective actions.
Ensure that Departments identify near misses and unsafe conditions and practices to make a robust prevention system.
