Job description

Position: Farm Supervisor

Reports To: Farm In-Charge / Dean, SOAS

Location: Agri Farm, SOAS (KRMU)

Job Purpose

The Farm Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily farm operations, including crop production, livestock management (if applicable), labour supervision, and implementation of best agricultural practices. The role ensures the efficient use of resources, the timely execution of farm activities, and the achievement of production targets while maintaining safety and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:-
Farm Operations Management
  • Supervise and monitor day-to-day agricultural operations, including ploughing, sowing. irrigation, fertilization, plant protection, weeding, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
  • Ensure proper functioning and timely maintenance of farm equipment and machinery.
  • Maintain stock records of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, tools, and other farm inputs.
  • Oversee livestock care and fodder management (if livestock unit exists).
Labor and Workforce Supervision
  • Allocate tasks to farm workers and supervise their performance.
  • Ensure discipline, attendance, and productivity of farm labourers.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to workers on modern farming techniques.
Resource & Record Management
  • Maintain farm records including input usage, crop yields, labour attendance, and operational costs.
  • Monitor water, energy, and input utilization to ensure efficiency.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and data for research/academic use.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure adherence to agricultural safety standards, environmental guidelines, and institutional regulations.
  • Monitor safe handling and storage of agrochemicals.
  • Support the implementation of sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices by Natural and Organic farming.
Coordination & Reporting
  • Report regularly to the Farm Manager/Dean on progress, challenges, and needs.
  • Assist in the execution of research, students' practical, and extension activities as directed.
  • Coordinate with suppllers, vendors, and service providers when required.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
  • Diploma/ B.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field (essential).
Experience
  • 2-5 years of practical experience in farm operations or supervision shall be referred.
  • Knowledge of modern farming techniques, crop/livestock management, and farm mechanization
Key Skills
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and monitor farm operations.
  • Basic knowledge of record-keeping and reporting.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Effective communication and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of the latest technologies like Poly house, Shed net, Aquaponic, Hydroponic. Vortical gardening and gardening etc.
Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Timely execution of sowing, irrigation, and harvesting schedules.
  • Efficient utilization of inputs and resources.
  • Increase in yield and reduction in crop/livestock losses.
  • Proper maintenance of records and reports. Worker productivity and discipline.
